i dont have any pics, but I can describe this perfectly. My HPOO little tupperware tubs have a very nice pinset finally, but I didnt ever case at the time. Its just HPOO colonized for the most part, some areas were left uncolonized because I had to move in a hurry and couldnt afford to wait. Now EVERY mushroom that springs up looks good at first, but after I checked on them again today, the heads are all dissolved with black gunk. The babies look so strong and healthy when they first start growing from pin, why is this happening in maturity?

Are we talking about a monotub/doubletub setup here, or trays?

One of the biggest causes of aborts is misting the pins directly, then allowing them to remain wet afterward. Whenever you mist, be sure to allow plenty of air exchange so the visible moisture can evaporate off. RR

is the misting what causes the caps to dissolve? They go from about a quarter inch tal, then the next day they are about 3-4 inches tall, very thin stems and the caps are black and slimy... oh yeah, its a aquarium with a external apace heater keeping the walls of the aquarium at a constant 80 degrees

So they're like trays in an aquarium, not like a monotub/doubletub.
Either way it was going to be either too little FAE, moisture on the fruitbodies, or a combination. I'm assuming that, since they're trays, you're misting is where the adjustments need to be made. Just do your best to keep moisture off of the fruitbodies (shrooms), and add an extra fanning to the "schedule".
I'm not sure what you're "routine" is though (not that it really matters). I don't like misting; I find it to be boring/tedious.
If you were doing a tub, then I was just going to say not to bother misting it.
Also, I'd get the temp to 78 degrees Fahrenheit MAX; I can't think of a reason for having a fruiting area at 80 degrees.

lower the temp a tad is possible and stop misting once you see alot of pins or mist carefully around them if need be.

Could be a...
Bacterial Blotch – Pseudomonas tolaasii (P. fluorescens)
Yellow to brown lesions form on mushrooms. Typically, spotting occurs at or near the edge of mushroom caps. Blotch occurs when mushrooms remain wet for a period of 4 to 6 hours or longer after water has been applied. The bacterium is spread in air-borne soil particles. Controls include lowering humidity and watering with a 150 ppm chlorine solution (calcium hypochlorite products are used since sodium hypochlorite products may burn caps). If the mushroom stays wet, however, chlorine has little effect since the bacterial population reproduces at a rate that neutralizes the effect of the oxidizing agent. Shiitake caps are affected by a bacterial disease caused by Pseudomonas gladioli (Burkholderia gladioli). Sanitation is a critical component of control measures.
