I read somewhere, or saw it on the Discovery channel. That if we are able to extend life beyond the 1,000 year mark, the average life will only be around 600 or so because of accidents. It is too easy to die in a car wreck, plane crash, hurricane, earthquake.........many things can kill you other than old age.

In 2000, the most common actual causes of death in the United States were tobacco (435,000), poor diet and physical inactivity (400,000), alcohol consumption (85,000), microbial agents (e.g., influenza and pneumonia, 75,000), toxic agents (e.g., pollutants and asbestos, 55,000), motor vehicle accidents (43,000), firearms (29,000), sexual behavior (20,000) and illicit use of drugs (17,000)
If we assume that the molecular and genetic therapies proposed will be used to fight the degenerative effects of aging, as opposed to repairing lifestyle-related physical damage (cirrhosis, lung cancer, heart disease), they will have little impact on the top causes of death.

I seriously think this is improbable just because of the amount of fat cells that will clog the arteries by just eating food past 150years. Just think most of us might die before life expectency just because of all the fast foods we have eaten.

accidents will be greatly reduced over time because technology will improve like have your car drive around without you driving it.

And what would be wrong with living forever in good health until you decide enough is enough? You'll probably exceed your current lifespan by far anyway.
We won't genocide all life on earth through nuclear war or massive pollution. We'll probably let things get way out of hand but then tackle the problem in a massive effort.

That still only eliminates @40-50,000 deaths per year (in the U.S.). Most deaths in developed nations are caused by lifestyle habits. These habits will not change just because a new genetic therapy is introduced, or because our cars are on automatic pilot. What is necessary is for us to get off automatic pilot & alter the death-dealing choices we make every day.

I guess what im looking at is the high possibility that the problem would get so big that it would be nearly impossible to tackle it. Most people would rather join it than fight it.

General reply...
Maybe one of the stipulations for the treatment could be sterilization.
