Jar Question...
    #5790948 - 06/25/06 11:08 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Hey all, I inoculated my first PF Jars 13 days ago and I still can't tell whether any spores even germinated...

I have a camera but it can't connect to this computer, I will try and get some pictures up asap. Maybe somebody can figure this out without pictures.

It seems like the jars are "colonzing" on the bottom first and then the sides of the jars, but this colonizations doesn't look like the white, fluffy, rhizomoprhic growth I have seen in pictures. It also doesn't look like any of the contaminations I have checked out in the contam FAQ thing. Parts of the jars look very different compared to before they were inoculated.

The growth is white-grey?, but not a brilliant white, and the bottoms of the jars look...dehydrated(that expression is used within the context of me having no experience with cakes or their moisture content). Some parts on some jars have wet peices of substrate stuck to the wall of the container. The walls of the jars have moisture on them. I'm really mostly concerned whether the growth is from the spores or whether it is a contam. Either way, I'm going to try and throw em outside.

You may have cobweb mould and possibly wet spot. If the white-grey started on the bottom, it is not mycelium. If the jars smell funked, you have some bacterial infection in there, too. Taking them outside is your best bet. GL.
