i have a nice patch of persian white poppies that are flowering right now, half of them still have their petals and half have lost them and are now beginning to swell. the bad part of all this is it will be raining all week.
from about 2 days ago to about a week from now we will be subjected to random rainfalls, not too heavy and all, but still plentiful. i know this is bad for poppies, especially at the time when they are making opium. how much potency can i expect to be lost?
i was thinking about hanging a tarp over them, but ive got neighbors and i dont want unnecessary attention in that area.

also, would it be a smart idea to lance them tomorrow instead of waiting 10 days, cause 10 days of rain might do more harm to th epotency than an early harvest would.
i know rain would make the latex wash away, so id use the method described in the poppy sticky and slice them, bring them in, hang them upside down and lance them over a plate or something.
suggestions please. thanks!

I would say if they are ready and there is "allot" of rain coming cut the stauk, lance the pod indoors, collect and let the pod dry. then use the pod for tea later. neither the "O" or the pod tea will be their "best" but both will be plenty fine on there own
