ok so i havent grown any magic fruit in about 7 months, but i decided to again about a month ago...and i remember how to, yet im not to up to date on my terms and such....so bear with me, i think there is a simple solution to this problem proly.... so i have followed PF Tek all the way to where i just let the jars sit while the mycelium (sp?) takes over and turns the cake into a birthday cake. Once you start to see the pins coming up is when its time to birth or case the cake, right? well Since inoculation (sp?) about 10 - 15 days ago, 5/5 of my jars seem to be fully colonized. a few of the jars have been fully colonized for a few days, yet im not seeing pins at all. also there is no mold or contams from what i can tell. its all pure white and stingy looking. it all looks great to me so far. just no pins?.....i even opened up one for like 1 second to see if there is a smell and there isnt.... i plann on casing 1 cake (my first time to try this) and i plan on putting 4 in the terranium (sp?) to fruit and cold shocking after each flush (thats how i always have grown in the past) i have never had a problem with pins. should i just keep waiting for some pins? In the jar i opened i noticed the mycelium had spread into the dry vermiculite area above the substrate below it and it looked like very light and fluffy cotton. I don't remember if thats normal or not?
can someone please help me out a bit?

Pinning will often take as much as 30 days to happen. If you expose them to light from day 1, it will happen faster. Since they colonized so fast, pins could be a week or so away. If you are a few days past 100$ colonization, you should birth the cakes and double-end case and roll in vermiculite. If you are growing cubensis, cold shocking has no value; I think you probably mean dunking them in water in the fridge (go 24 hours after the first flush since they finished quckly). And it's really common for the vermic. barrier to get colonized. Those cakes are young; pins will come. GL.

First, you can pin in jar or birth when full colonized, case, dunk if you want, and then put in the fruiting chamber. Both are ok but majority advice to birth, case, dunk and let pins in FC. If you left the cake pin in jar, you wait until your pin is 5 to 10mm long and then birth. Pin formation can take up to 2 week, just put them in correct condition and don't bother until day 14.
http://www.shroomery.org/index.php/par/23457 look under primordia formation
My first growth have take about 6 to 7 days for first sign. For your growth into dry vermiculite, it's normal, it's only indicate an healthy mycelium. But your mycelium is not suppose to colonize the entire dry verm area. If it's happen, verm were not completely dry and you should keep your jar close until birth to protect them of contams. good luck

thanks so much! some great help right there! i am doing cubensis....they are ecuador strain i have never fanned my jars ever before birthing, or ever exposed them to light till i have seen pins i guess i thought that cold shocking IS taking the cakes and putting in water in the fridge over night
also i was reading and since this is my first attempt at a casing, i dont need to wait for pins (because i would have to remove them) so i can go ahead and case one that i know is fully colonized, which i plan on doing in the simplest possible way so i should proly go ahead and sterilize my 10 gal bucket and my verm today, so they can cool and be ready for tommorow
