Anyone Used Hidden Cameras Before?
    #5789565 - 06/25/06 02:51 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

I ordered a wireless, penny sized camera off ebay for $7.50 + $20 s and h. I live with people I don't always trust, so I wanna have evidence if anything ever goes missing. Has anyone here used hidden cameras before? Easy to set up? Ever caught someone in a criminal act?

they're easy to set up but you'll want a time lapse recorder so you can record
more than 8 hours at a time, the one I had recorded a week of video to an 8hr tape

yeah you would have to get a video input for your comp, like a wintv card or somthing

i have used security cameras for some time on and off, they generally tend to cause more problems than they solve, i.e. if it breaks, do you konw if it was you or your roomies that fucked up... lots of paranoia.

i would recomend a strong lock on your door and a motorola homesight security system  digital recording with text message, and picture mesage notification of any system events

Cool, I was looking at the computer dvr plug in chip thingies. They are cheap as hell and way better. Has anybody installed one of these before? Is it easy? How much comp space do you need?

Use a computer program called "Gotcha". Only records when it detects movement. Very little memory required.

It all sounds like a rather good idea, I will be purchasing somthing like this in the near future. The only problem I see is leaving your computer running 24/7 while your away...dvr is the way to go, locked in a chest.

I've had 2-3 PC's turned on 24/7 for the past 2 years, not really seeing a problem with leaving them on. Hell.. my linux box hasn't even been rebooted in 6 months

Damn that power outage and my UPS battery running out of juice.

Also, I'm not including brief downtime for cleaning/upgrading/rebooting

That gotcha! program is sweet.... now to find more cameras....
