if its a hoax, then how different would it be if it wasn't?
and why would it be a hoax? I can think of only two reasons.
one, the author making a grab at fame/notariety two, the russian govt, attemptint to paint a frightful picture of what may be merely a secret and forbidden conspiracy zone.
i think its more likely that the russian goverment would proclaim such a thing a hoax due to suggestions such as the woman having obtained passage through her fathers influence, or the implication that soldiers used their authority of station to access her "phicical biology"
both of which scenarioa, are quite likely and quite embarrasing to a government such as russias.

it wasnt a hoax, I've spokent with the lady several times, I first posted the site a couple years ago and again posted it for Konradde several months ago after she'd updated the site and bought a new bke, much of the area has been downgraded from being contaminated by the bellarus government although high levels of cesium 127 are still present
she's assisting her father with research, theres some dead links on her page that can be tracked by changing the URL a little, some are videos that are well worth the time to view

very interesting read.
-------------------- No point in mentioning these bats, I thought. Poor bastard will see them soon enough "There's a uh, big machine in the sky, some kind of, I dunno, electric snake, coming straight at us." "Shoot it." "Not yet, I want to study its habits. "

Why would it be a hoax. The are is quite safe now if you don't stay there too long. I think it's really impressive how the area has become one of the biggest and important nature reserves in Europe.

Very cool!

That's pretty cool. I think her father is some kind of scientist studying the radiation, as he shows up in some of the photos and has clearance for the checkpoints. She just wants to make it look like she did it herself so she doesn't seem like a daddy's girl =)
But very cool. I just recently rediscovered the site myself.

I only say it's a hoak because of what the little scroll box on the front page says.
Quote:
July 7, 2004
First let me say that I have nothing to do with this project other than donating the bandwidth to allow the world to see it. When I first saw the site, Angelfire could not handle the amount of traffic the site was receiveing. I knew my server could. Then Angelfire began plastering the site with banner ads shamelessly trying to make money off the site. This is the point at which Elena shut the site down, not because she had anything to hide.
Regardless of what is true, this site has certainly made people think more about Chernobyl and this tragic disaster.
However, this story has been there for years and has been primarily forgotten and neglected.
After "Elena" brought this story to light, everyone that claims to be an expert has come forward identifying it as a hoax or a fraud.
How ironic that although they would label her a hoax and a fraud, she was able to achieve what they could not even dream of achieving. Bringing this issue the world wide attention it deserves.
As the only email contact, I have seen each of the moving emails that were directed to "Elena." Her words have definitely made the world think about this piece of forgotten history. I have seen every request from news agencies from around the world, each of the big names, begging for interviews.
"Elena" wanted nothing to do with these interviews.
I offered to setup a paypal donate account to create a fund for the project and local charities.
"Elena" Wanted nothing to do with it.
Did she do it for fame or notoriety or even money?
Or did she do it in order to bring attention to a forgotten region.
Read her words and decide for yourself.
