New Pics!

Just working on some photography skills with the new camera. Any suggestions, photo-wise? This cake was standard BRF recipe with about 15% horse poo and 10% WBS (dunked after first flush). 52 wet grams, second flush... Not bad, eh?

We need to make a high yeilding pf tek. The pf tek needs a poop mixture now. Look at thoughs mushrooms. If that would have happened to me on my first grow I would have took a dump in my pants.
The angles and picks of the mushrooms themselves are good. Now you just need to work on backrounds for them.

Well photowise, I'd suggest using solid backgrounds to make the shrooms stand out a little more. A solid colored crushed velvet curtain (preferably a "soothing color" like blue, purple, or green) would really compliment those shrooms nicely.
Also, the framing is a little tight IMO; the first pic is fine, but the other 3 (especially the pic of the topside of the cap) feel a little "cramped". Remember that you can always, of course, crop the pics on the computer, so I say that you should leave some "slack".
The shrooms look really nice, BTW. Good job.

Thanks guys! Arrakis, the pics originally had a wider framing, but I cropped them and resized them instead of just resizing so I could get a larger image of the mushrooms themselves. Next time, I think I'll just tinker around a bit with my compression and see what I can come up with. Thanks again, though!

Is that like a Les Claypool board game?

if you can make a pic work withought a flash they usually come out much better. I would reccomend a small tripod.

Nope, just the Claypool Frog Brigade CD "Purple Onion." If you're a Claypool fan and haven't heard it (or Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains), you should definitely check it out. I saw his Fancy Band at Bonnaroo, and... Jesus Christ, Mike Dillon is as good on the vibraphone as Claypool is on bass!
Yamidude, the first pic was taken without a flash, and I think it turned out the best. The wierd thing about my camera is that if it's set on macro, the flash is perfect, but without macro mode on, the flash is just way too strong. I still haven't figured out how or if I can regulate that... Oh, and a tripod is on the way

1. Take pictures both close to the subject and far away but zoomed in, then compare the two. Learn which method is better for a given situation.
2. Play with lighting. Different colors, different positions, backlighting, white balance, overexposures, etc.
3. I notice that texture-centered shroom pics are attractive. The second picture in your collection would look really nice as a macro toward the edge of the cap.

Thanks everyone, really! I've got another cake that's nearly done, and I plan on utilizing all of this advice while photographing it. I'll post my results tomorrow.
