What the heck is an agar plate and petri dish and how is it used in mycology? It seems very technical and I don't plan on taking any chemistry classes any time soon - LOL!!!
Thanks Shaq

High sugar content gelatin and an edged piece of glass. I don't think this is chemistry 101 rite here.

You can put a mushroom or a peace of a mushroom. Or a peace of mycelium on it, or add just a tiny bit of spores.

Agar is a guru, and Petri is an Italian flutist. Seriously, though, agar is a seaweed extract that has the unique property of congealing at a much lower temperature than it melts. So you can grow micro-organisms on it in a solid state when your average gelatin would turn into goo. I think you know what a petri dish is, you're just sandbagging in case you get tested on this. If it's multiple choice, the answer is always- C.

Cool I see that after searching around some more - but when the dish colonizes (is that the correct term?) - how do you use it or transfer it to grain?
Thanks Shaq
