This is getting pretty freakin' random. Are we sure it's in the right forum?
The most important thing in MY life right now is my physical body, which is pretty sad, but hey, I've grown kinda reliant on it.

People aren't things. The most important person in my life is me, my one and only lifelong companion. Everyone else comes and goes, but I'm with myself till death do us part.

Worrying is like trying to solve a math problem by chewing gum. Why are you concerned about your children, and why do you think it will help them for you to not be the most important person in your life?

"""why do you think it will help them for you to not be the most important person in your life?"""
i knew that but i needed somebody to tell me that...
I'm going to procede along those lines.
but I love me children more than myself, and that's something
i CAN'T tell them

Well, if we're talking about things that aren't people or animals or living entities that qualify as more than simple material things... umm... I'll go with my aquarium, 'cause without it, my fish would be all over my floor suffocating to death.
But I'd argue that people are things, 'cause nothing's not a thing.

Thing (pertinent definitions)
...an inanimate object distinguished from a living being
4 a plural : POSSESSIONS, EFFECTS <pack your things> b : whatever may be possessed or owned or be the object of a right c : an article of clothing <not a thing to wear> d plural : equipment or utensils especially for a particular purpose
Also, if our language defines a noun as a "person, place or thing" (loosely), as opposed to just "a thing," then places and people are not things.
My point was more that fixating on another human being as though they were an object may not be healthy.

Pretty limited definition of thing you've got there. I usually use thing as a general catch-all for any concept/person/thing(properly defined)/place/experience/anything else you care to concieve of that has been differentiated from unjudged, unabstracted, undifferentiated existance. Like the ten thousand things or myriad things mentioned in taoist teachings. Nice to know I'm wrong.
There are too few words that have vague, loose, amorphous meanings. It makes formless thought in english more difficult. In fact, despite being so very demonstrably wrong according to your dictionary, I'm going to keep my definintion of thing.
But I appreciate the input, here, have a flower...
Edit: Sorry, this is intended as a reply to Veritas, not OWS. Not to say OWS shouldn't get a flower, in fact, he can have a
