Myc Questions, Fruiting Stage

The mycelium in my monotub has almost totally colonized the casing layer. It's been in fruiting for about 5 days. The temps have been consistently in the 75-78F range, RH in the 99% range and the circulation around the tub moderate.
I notice that the myc seems to have split into three distinct categories. Unfortunately, my craptacular camera can't do macros so I'm going to have to describe the four types.
1. The dense/wispy myc we all know and love. 2. Some of the myc almost looks like lichen, but white. Same as #1 but more flattened. 3. Itttttttty bitty balls, perfectly white, perfectly round. I'd say you could line up about 15-20 of these things, end-to-end, and they wouldn't be longer than a penny.
Are these the beginnings of pins? If so, I have way more than can be counted. If not, what are they?

Coir casing?

Oyster Shell "Flour" $2 for 1lb. a hell of a deal Not what is overlay but rather what overlay is Gas Exchange vs. FAE "We all have priorities. It's a 50/50 mix of coir and crushed expanded clay. Think "hydroton" but in bits about the size of wet perlite and sold specifically as a vermiculate replacement.

Hyphae, you're killing me here. Are you telling me you've never seen these ...these ...ball-things and the litchen-esque myc?

Typical coir colonization pattern check out my overlay thread (third pic). BTW expanded clay is no substitute for verm whoever told you that was either full of shit or simple has no clue to verms amendment qualities. FYI clay pellets are as hard as rock just porous verm on the otherhand is like miniture sponges a world of difference.

I found your thread but the third pic is very small and I couldn't make out any detail.

I might be mistaken on whether it's expanded clay or not. That's what it looks like to me. Anyway, the bag itself says "Outperforms Vermiculite and Perlite" so it's definitely a moisture-holding and aeration material since that's what verm and perlite do for soil ...right?

My casings were near colonized in my DTs and i ended up with good pinsets. It took to at least 10 days for me to get pins.

Perlite loosens soil and retains very little water. The advertising is just that advertising for soil grower (gardeners) where water retention is not really wanted or desired as gardeners want good well draining soils. Unless it's possibly polymer crystals verm is one of the only water "sponges" around that I've ever heard of.

Ah, crap.
Supposing I can't find vermiculite for whatever reason, what is my next best option? 100% coir?

Promix soilless potting soil or something similar will work better than straight coir.

The mycelium on my casings are doing what you (splifner180).
The mycelium is spreading itself about on the casings, but the way it is doing it makes me feel uneasy (paranoied)?
On one particuler casing, it is as if the mycelium is trying to branch out (this casing looks like it has some light brown spots - could it be the dirt?). On another casing, the mycelium has the lichen characteristics (looks as if it is "flowering").
The casing holds 60 coir and 40 vermiculite.
Does that sound like the characteristics the mycelium show with coir/vermiculite? I hope that light brown coloring is in fact dirt that is picked up by the mycelium.
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but what are typical signs of low humidity?

Don't worry about jacking the thread. As usual I think I'm being impatient. The first monotub has only been fruiting for about 5 days while the second is around 3 days. People have been opining that it can easily take up to 10 days to see pins so ...I'll just stop doing the watched-pot thing. =D
Frankly, I have no idea what's going on with mine. My gut tells me I have too little FAE so I'm going to move the tub to a slightly more well-circulated area.

The reason the mycelium branches out is that it is colonizing the coir casing as food much like myc on agar does in circular radiating pattern. With peat based casings the myc simply grows through it with no intentions on digesting any of it as it senses no nutritional value.
First sign of low humidity is slowed growth along with depressed mycelium ie; flattened not fluffy although it can still be somewhat rhizomorphic. Also pins will form reluctantly if at all. I highly suggest switching your ratio's around to 60/40 verm/coir.
