Gymnopilus spectabilis

A friend of mine is trying to get a spawn run of G.s. in a Rye Z Morph bag. After two weeks there was this really thick fuzzy grey looking stuff that I have a bad feeling about. The bag is not inflating, which I am guessing is indicative of anaerobic activity. :frown: The stuff seems to be growing very fast since we first noticed its presence right at the injection sight.

Can anyone tell me what color the spawn is supposed to be for this species?

Thanks.

Thanks for the info.
I have searched the contamn forum, and have come to the conclusion that this mess is the cobweb mold, and should be chucked.

I know that not all shrooms have white mycelium. The Morel is one example that I have some experience with that has a brown cobwebby appearence.

I notice that a lot of folks ask the same question I did for various species that they are trying to grow. I suggest to the powers that be, especially some of the experienced growers on here that we have a mycelial data base on this site with pics and descriptions of how it should look on different mediums for all our popular medicinal, gourmet, and entheogenic mushrooms. This does not have to be as monumental as it seems. If, for example all species in the Psiloscybe genus all have the same cottony white mycelium, we could list it under "Psilocybe (All)" or "Gymnopilus(All)" for example. Any exceptions could have their own listing.
