Lowering the temp in my FC

Well, after my 2 first failed attempts. I learned a couple of things. 1. Your substrate depth is key. I had a pan that was only about 1/2". Well, the casing shriveled up and dried itself out (guess the guy wasnt paying attention)
2. Temp is key. This is where I am running into a couple of issues. The FC seems to stay at around the mid to upper 80s. (And this is kind of an issue) Will adding a cool mist help drop the temp a bit? I have been using the spray bottle thus far. The FC is housed in a closet which consists of a shelving unit covered in plastic and a timed light. I have some hpoo trays that I hope will do better than my first attempt at a casing.
So my question is - will adding a cool mist help the temp drop a bit? Or is there another technique that I should employ for this? Thanks -Me

It sounds like you let the casing get too dry, which is way worse than too thick, as far as pinsets and fruiting--thicker casing layers just progress more slowly. Cubies will grow in your temp. range, you just need to increase fresh air exchange to discourage contams (which love warmer temps). One thing I have done to lower temps is take frozen water jugs and place them in your FC. This can help a little but requires a lot of maintenance. Just provide more fresh air, and you should be okay. GL.

H/poo substrates can generate considerable heat, in the colonization stage.
A coolmist will function like an evaporative cooler. Which can lower the temperature a few degree's.
If your FC maintains mid to upper 80's empty . You have a problem. Because (IMHO) that is to high for colonizing h/poo sub's.
I colonize h/poo sub's around 72 / 74F. Simply because, they can/will generate 10 more degree's.
To much heat, will cause FERMENTATION in a h/poo substrate.
