I was just reading the thread about the yellow chanterelles (sp) and how u can soak them in water then dump it on an ideal habitat and create your own patch. Does this actually work and does it work with any other species (caerulipes in particular)?

Or, say, could one food process the collected chanterelles with around a quart of water, then inoculate some wood shavings in a bin?

Well.... it could work, I mean, hypothetically, if all of the habitat requirements were met, you should see some mushrooms, come rainy season.... But this is far from mathematical- You would not be the first to fail saying "But everything is PERFECT for them, i just don't get it!"
And then of course, there are the strange encounters with mushrooms growing out of unusual substrates, out of season, not ideal weather, areas they are not known to grow, and you are like "wha- but i thought they were finicky?!"
Sooo, you just never know, you can only try... I tried with some subb spore water and dumped it around my lawn and got nothing, hehe. Doesn't mean I won't try again, but the thing is, I didn't expect anything because subbs had not been growing in my lawn to begin with, so I knew it was not their preferred area...
Do some research on what sort of area the mushroom you intend to spread the spores of grows to have the best chances. Anyway, ya got nothing to lose really, so give it a shot.

Fair enough. I really can't call what I've collected a "meal", but, hell, if they've popped up naturally, maybe I can try again later this year with some new natural fruits. Thanks!

Keep in mind chanterelles are mycorrhizal fungi... so your ideal habitat must be replete with living trees specific to your particular mushroom. It isn't really the soil you need to inoculate but the root tips of the host plant. That being said I do know someone who poured their chanterelle wash water around the base of the same oak tree for a number of years and have recently found a few fruitbodies. who knows.... they may have grown without addition of spore water as well. If I only found a few and had a handy oak I would likely try the same thing… only after having held the mushrooms to my nose for an hour or so. Chanterelle perfume would rock!
