Potency and drying
    #5785557 - 06/24/06 12:23 AM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Last time my B+ mushrooms seemed to be not very potent, perhaps its because i dryed them ontop of my computer moniter, my question is how long do you think they can be in a desiccant chamber before they rott?

potency is usually heavily UNRELATED to heat and drying
its more akin to substrate, nutrients, and personally what i think is more important...substrain genetics

Damn straight.  Drying heat really shouldn't affect potency.  Well, you could fry them on a skittle to dry them, but, that's stupid.  Boiling water at 212 F doesn't kill potency whatsoever when you're making tea, so anything below that shouldn't be a problem if you're using a dehydrator or what-have-you.

If you're having potency problems, a) Get better poo or yard compost b) add some blood meal to the pasteurization mix .

The strain shouldn't really matter... a cube is a cube is a cube.  As far as genetics go, you might get a really nice fruiting strain, but that shouldn't affect potency too much, as far as I understand.  It's your substrate that counts.

substrain implies its the same strain, but a different genetic mix, possibly resulting in unexpected behavior
thats actually a horrible explanation for substrain...but, fuck it, lets go with it..

and even more horrible explanation is like the recessive traits in humans
how red hair will keep popping up in families
and how males always go bald if their moms dad was going bald

only in this case, low potency is the recessive trait

anyway, in the future i hope i have a better explanation =/

I was just talking about pinning and fruiting under a given condition--you get a decent genetic strain that's suited to indoor fruiting.

Fucked if I know shit beyond that.  I only wanted to mention that drying probably has far less to do with potency in psilocybes than the substrate that was used.

B+ is a horrible strain as far as potency goes, would not waste my time with it

AND IME a cube is not just a cube
AND hpoo does not neccessarily make cubes more potent IME

try mexicans on straw
