Sound muting out when trying to record vinyls.
    #5783311 - 06/23/06 09:43 AM (17 years, 7 months ago)

My record player is hooked up to a receiver with a double tape deck. I like to copy my vinyls onto cassette for my car.

When I am doing this I am listening to the vinyl as it records and it sounds fine. However when I listen to the tape, sometimes parts of the song will mute out for brief periods of time, then the sound will kick back in.

This has happened with many of my vinyls and different types of cassette tapes so I know this is not an isolated situation. I thought it was maybe dust, but even my newer albums have this problem.

Does anyone know what is causing this and if there is something I can do to fix the problem?

Thanks.

whats the common demoninator between all your attempts to record? cables? cassette brand? tape deck? turntable?

Well I use the same turntable every time I record, same for the cables, and tape deck. I have tried different brands of cassettes.
Since it sounds fine while the record is playing do you think it is the tape deck?

If you listen to the vinyl while it is recording, and it sounds fine, then it is not the turntable or cables. Instead, if would have to be something after the point where you monitor the sound. This pretty much only leaves the tape deck, the tape itself, or the playback equipment.
