here is a bit of rehash from one of my first post i have ever made,
why believe in things that you cannot personally experience?
a belief system is just like a house if you build on top of a strong foundation it would be very hard to find a weak link for it to topple.

to not believe in something outside of yourself is a good way to close your mind off. we as humans know but a spec of what is going on, beliefs are one way to push those barriers and leave it to the realm of "anything is possible"
if you see a tree, and say to yourself, this tree is ugly, it will be ugly to you. if you see a tree and say it is beautiful, then you believe its beautiful. you could change your opinion (which is another word for belief) of the tree. however you like, if you believe you can! I dunno if I'm explaining ths well, but beliefs have a powerful effect on how we view reality, and equally as important, how we don't view it! this is what I think peole are getting at when they talk about 'creating your world' This is why beliefs are important, its a mechanism for survival.
in this regard, saying all beliefs are true, and all beliefs are false, are saying the same thing.
-------------------- Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

i don't think it is a way to close off the mind, from my experience it has made me get real about my life, but also has allowed me to explore the "realm of possibilities", experience that and then have a belief about that experience. i think we are fooling ourselves to belief something that we have not yet experienced, its good to explore before you believe.

I can't experience radio waves, yet I don't let that stop me from watching TV

Just currious, how on earth did you extract that sentance from my previous post? Is this what you "experienced" while reading my post? If yes, then your experience is a weak thing to rely on

"I can't experience radio waves, yet I don't let that stop me from watching TV"
I'd argue that your experience of watching tv IS you experiencing radio waves. What, you want them to introduce themselves to you before they make their way into your tv? Seems like by your logic you could also argue that you don't experience gravity, but you don't let that make you float off into space. Being stuck to the ground IS experiencing gravity.
Unless of course you mean 'experience' in the "but honey, are you... experienced??" sense. Well, can't say as that I've... umm... experienced radio waves, but gravity certainly screws me over every minute of every day...
-------------------- Don't worry, I'm wrong.

No, I'm experiencing light waves, but I can't know where the information is comming from, unless I take a leap and TRUST what I have been toled about electronics and radio waves on college.
Gravity is something I can directly experience on my body, but I can't experience radio waves because they have no effects on my senses.
What I can do is take a chance and trust what other people say about them, and then see if using them works, and it does work. My TV does have picture and sound.
