Overlay on cakes???

Does this happen?

What should be done if it does?

My uncles friend has some B+ jars going, they are taking awhile, but no contams.
Going on a month from innoculation I think...

no such thing, cakes always have 'overlay' relative to casings, but that's the way it's supposed to be.

These are not going to casing, atleast not all...just looks like the colonized substrate is pulling away from the jar

cakes do shrink a little when they are colonizing, but its not called overlay, its called cakes shrinking.
