Inoculation Technique

Having trouble inoculating? Getting alot of contams? I had posted this a while ago while I was very active on the forums, however it got lost/deleted.
First and foremost, clean your inoculation area. I usually whipe the area down with some alcohol and then spray the air with Lysol.
Take a small glass, plastic cup, what have you. Put in a good inch of alcohol. Take a sponge and cut a few 1" squares. Get a napkin as well, and fold it up. Now put the sponges, and napkin in the alcohol. Soak the napkin and drain it, then leave it on the side. Also, get some band aids.
Take your needle, tip it pointy side up, and get the air out. Give her a lil squirt. Flame the needle tip till it turns red and then whipe it with the napkin. Keep the needle inside the napkin(Folded over the needle), and lay it on the side for now.
Now get your jar in front of you. Take one of the sponges out from the glass and squeeze most of the content out of it so it is sitting field capacity.
Place the sponge over your inoculation hole. Now take your needle out of the napkin, pierce through the sponge, and inject some spores.
Once you put however much spore/LC solution, remove the needle, and the sponge. Take one of your band aids and cover the hole you just created with the needle.
Rinse and repeat. Every few jars I re-flame my needle and exchange the sponge. I haven't seen a single contam since I started this practice years ago.
Best of luck.
Edit: Can also cover your inoculation with a self healing port (Silicone), and you wont need a band-aid!
Edit: I should mention, if your doing BRF jars. You do not need to use the bandaids as the dry layer of verm is your contam barrier.

Whiping the needle with alcohal will not steralize the inside of the needle. Just an extra precaution. I cut no corners when it comes to steralization.

I'd hate to bump an old thread but I was thinking of ways to inoculate in the most sterile way possible.
I did a quick search and found this. My idea is very similar to yours. Some feedback would be nice. Do you still use this TEK?
This method would be used in conjunction with the Self Healing Lid TEK. Cut a piece of sponge longways about 1/2 in. x 1/2 in. wide. Make it long enough to cover the whole needle.
For each jar you are inoculating, soak a ~ 1 in. x 1 in. square of folded paper towel in alcohol. Also soak the sponge piece in alcohol. Soak for 5 minutes??? to ensure the alcohol has had time to kill all of the contams.
Squeeze each piece of paper towel out just a little, then rub the silicone injection port with it. Spread it out, then leave it over the injection port. Leave for 5 minutes to ensure all contams are killed???
Squeeze most of the alcohol out of the sponge. Flame sterilize needle. Poke needle through sponge piece, longways. There should be no needle poking out of the sponge when the sponge is fully expanded. Poke needle through just enough to squirt a couple drops of inoculant out. (This would clear any alcohol out of the inside of the needle and would make sure it is cooled to the best temperature) Let the needle disappear back inside the sponge.
For each jar, take the the paper towel off the injection port. Place the sponge and needle on to the injection port. Push needle in and inoculate. Hold sponge in place while drawing the needle back out, completely concealing the needle inside the sponge.
Thanks!

Well I have had some problems with contams. Since CITRIC had already had this idea I wanted to post it on his thread instead of making another. Wanted to give him credit and all that...

Yeah, While I appreciate Citric and remember him from back in the day. His advise is horrible on this topic. Flame in between each jar. Don't inoculate through a sponge with alcohol and use a SAB or flow hood.

Hmmm hate to be in disagreement but, he had done this for "years" with no contams... I don't see the problem?

Alright then, I trust you guys. I will flame in between every inoculation and build a proper SAB. Thanks for the feedback!
