Jiffy MIx = Perfect Mix

If you're in the US and you went to Wal-Mart to do some shopping for Jiffy Mix, they might not have it. I know there were some teks for casing using Jiffy Mix (perlite and peat moss) instead of looking for Oyster Shell Powder. If you can't find it, ask for "Perfect Mix". It's the same exact thing just a different name, and if you ask for Jiffy Mix they'll probably try to send you somewhere else.
Just in case anyone else had this problem, I figured I'd make this thread. Thanks.

i don't see any information on whether it contains a ph balancer, a necessary ingredient to any peat moss based casing material.

hasn't been necessary for me. I've used peat/verm for all my casings and they don't contaminate, then again, i probably have a cleaner house than some here.
the jiffymix in small bags usually has hydrated lime already in it. that big bag doesn't say much about it.
Anyways, that should work just fine, if the pH is off, adjust it with hydrated lime, gypsum and oyster shell flour

it depends where you live and what products you use.
you should always pasteurize casing material. however, some sterilize it and get away with it.
peat ph is different everywhere, but no matter what it is....
you can always benefit from a correct ph level.

The perlite stuff works great. It's what I primarily use.
