No oyster shells. Is there an alternative?
    #5779505 - 06/22/06 03:50 AM (17 years, 7 months ago)

I don't have access to oyster shells so is there anything else that I can balance the pH with? I'm going to order some powdered shell off the internet, but I have a couple jars that are ready to case.

If I don't add anything to the 50/50 mix I am aware that my results won't be the same, but how much of a loss am I looking at?

If you can order online..just order the shells online.

Froogle: crushed oyster shells , I just got $7 for 4lbs I believe.

I like adding the shells whether it's key or not.

Go to the grocery store and pick up some pickling lime--it works. Just make sure it's not pickling salt. GL.
