I listen to that kind of music.

Hey guys.. if I understand correctly Limewire pro is just limewire with out adds and comercials right? If thats the case Frostwire is the same thing made by the free source community. It is basically lime wire that a bunch of hackers took and made better, without ads/spyware, or commercials. Might consider that instead of a dissapearing pro version.

www.frostwire.com

Limewire is an open source program. FrostWire is one of many third-party development forks.

I think you should look up how many spyware files you will be getting or how many viri you will be downloading.

Try Azureus (BitTorrent). I like it and it is pretty simple to use. If you don't like it ... use www.frostwire.com. It is like limewire but without all the spyware and shit. Well it is without those for now.

Could someone please describe the "spyware and shit" that the current free-as-in-beer LimeWire build ships with?

I'm not aware of LimeWire currently shipping with any kind of malware.

Are you talking about bundled software that comes with the free version of LimeWire, or malware that you downloaded from the Gnutella network using LimeWire?

As far as I know, LimeWire does not ship with the former, and you can hardly hold LimeWire responsible for the latter. To my knowledge FrostWire offers no protection from malware and malicious files downloaded volountarily by the user.

Yeah I think it is just the Gnutella network in general. I wouldn't be surprised for to come under attack from riaa or mpaa in the very near future. Or other anti peer2peer groups. I have come across a pretty fair share of bad flies in my experience with it. Its the new Kazaa in my eyes. Just my opinion though. Many people like it because its simple and requires no set up. Just install and begin to download.

I don't like it because I prefer to download full albums in flac format or a high bit rate mp3. Lime wire doesn't really have much quality control and you don't really know what you are downloading till you have the file. With communities like bit torrent or news groups you have a fairly good quality control and bad files almost are non existent. They are almost always fixed as soon as they are discovered.

But if those type of things don't matter to you and, all you care about is finding one or two songs here and there from an artist then lime wire may be the way to go.

If you like to dl movies or video files then you are doing yourself an injustice most of the time by going through lime wire. Bit torrent and News groups are better by large margins in that category.

Limewire isn't not all that bad though especially for people who don't have much file sharing knowledge. But if you take the time to learn other networks you will probably have a better file sharing experience overall.
