Hey all I'm planning on making the jump from clandestine mycology into the legal realm.
I was curious... from what I've seen Yellow Oyster mushrooms seem to be a good starter. Does anyoen else have any good reccomendations for my first legal grow? So far I've got experience with PF-Tek (2 attempts, 1 success), and I'm trying my best to learn about liquid culturing.
It would be awesome if someone could reccomend an edible that could be grown using PF-Tek. I do have access to pretty much every grain as well, my PC just is kind of bonkers at times.
Any suggestions or reading material would be greatly appreciated!

Here's a torrent for The Mushroom Cultivator, http://www.torrentspy.com/torrent/501494/The_Mushroom_Cultivator
I found it a pretty good read- If you wanna go a bit more in depth this is very useful. I found it dissappointing on the genetic side of things though, and the book is set for commercial production; however the background about how mushrooms function is very good.
Do a search in the edible forum, I think there's heaps of threads on what the PF tec is suitable for, mostly the addition of sawdust etc helps with edibles I believe.

Oysters and reishi are both quite aggressive and forgiving.

Hey wiggles, Yellow oysters would be a good choice for a first grow as would any of the oysters. I think they will all fruit using the PF tek.
This page has some good links to growing gourmet mushrooms.

Also--check out some woodworking/cabinetry shops in your area. They tend to just toss their wood chips/wood shavings. Or, they're used to people asking them for their scrap. Just make sure it's hardwood shavings and untreated. It's a little weird going in there at first, but, they're just going to toss it anyways, most likely--the people I've met are quite happy to let me dump a 55-gal container of shavings into garbage sacks or rubbermaids.

Awesome, thanks! There's some carpentry shops around, and a lumber yard at Home Depot. I'll hit them up.
Now to track down some spores!

PM me if you'd like a culture syringe. I'm about to inoculate some grain jars with my reishi LC mycelium. I'll have to wait another few weeks to make sure the oyster culture comes out all right.
