Wanna see some outrageous BLUE?
    #5776931 - 06/21/06 03:30 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Found some NICE Boletus luridus today growing under a Live Oak tree in the St. Agustin grass.
I have never photographed this Boletus but I have run across them. Today at work I saw a nice patch and collected 4 nice specimens as you can see from the photo.

Now get this! I was not able to pick up the camera and snap a shot of the yellow flesh before it started bruising..
Look at that BLUE.. I love it..
This is a great example for newbs,To see that you can not rely on "BLUE" as your only indicator and start chowing down.
This mushroom is considered non edible but on a few web sights I have seen where they have been consumed with a bit of stomach problems!
Not For Me!!!
Oh well I just figured it was a cooool Fungus to capture in pixels and share with the rest of you Mushroom people

Nice specimens, and great photos.

Orson Miller once showed me a bolete that he then cut in half and opened up. In the time it took for the knife to cut through it and the maybe one second more to split the halves away from each other the flesh went from white to a deep blue.

It's truly impressive how fast some of the boletes can change color.

Happy mushrooming!

Cool pictures. I find similar looking Boletes often. I have a bunch of pics of the bluing somewhere, I don't think I have all of them uploaded yet.
It is amazing how fast those suckers blue.

Several species of the bluing boletes are very toxic.

B. cyanescens and B. satanicus are two examples.

Interesteing thought but I have always taught pickers that if they are interesti ed in entheogenic mushrooms then they ieleimated about 99% or more of the dangers of picking a wrong shroom. One Pickbluing mushrooms fo the genera Panaeolus, Copelandia(black spored) shrooms and/or pick Psilocybe mushrooms (Chocolate Brown to Purple- brown. DO not pick any shrooms with white gills or with orange to cinnamon-colored gills. That elimenates the deadliest of species which wilo kill you. The white spored Amanitas and the Orange to rusty-berown a nd cinnamon-volored gils of the deadly Galerina musrhooms and the deadly Conocybe filaris.

Next, they are looking for gilled-mushrooms, Psilocybe and the Panaeolus/Copelandia shrooms. Not the porous mushrooms (boletes) which blue.
