Restart = Key for Me!
    #5774758 - 06/20/06 11:31 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

About a month ago, swim had started a grow.
However, he did not see ANY resulsts except mold etc.

Well 3 days ago he noced up 2 jars he had gotten online and already myc is covering 15-25% of the outside!

He also used a new syringe which looked much different than the first (*you can now see things floating rather than before)

Though he is dissapointed for wasting time on his first one
he is very excited for this one, and is realistically only expecting 2 trip worths.

He is using PF-Style cakes and has not thought about fruiting that much just yet.

He will post some pictures this week as well as some updates etc---
just last night, he innoced a jar that he had had from the first grow that did not produce any sisng of mold and will hopoe to see results soon.

^^* he just added a very soaked paper towel to his incubater, and as for the 2 store bought ones, he put them in the garage

You don't need humidity in your incubator.

Obviously . Or you would have know that high humidity isn't needed for PF cakes until fruiting , lol

Don't worry about humidity while colonizing . Worry about a nice even temp .

As far as having 15-25% colonization from a multi-spore inoculation after 3 days , I would think contam over mycelium .

It can take 3-5 days just for spore germination . Hard to believe they could have germinated and colonized that much in 3 days . Maybe from a LC but not a MS ,

Good Luck

I agree with HC. I have only seen that with LC and not even that much of it was colonized, I would say 5-7% after 3-5 days and that was a very agressive strain.

thats not unrealistic for fresh spores, and a well prepped jar.  ive got a dozen at the moment from MS (golden teachers) at 7 days that are about 75% on the average.... been a long long time since i've 'nocced with anything but LC but the speed of these guys blew me away.  (im also testing out a new cake recipe so that could have something to do with it!)

***Question!***
Im leaving soon, in like 5 days for a 2.5 week trip, what should i do with these? i can put them in a colder place like say 70-75 degree place to try and slow col or what should i do?

They look as though they will be ready in a week.

thanks

you should leave them be, in a dark spot, at just room temperature while you're gone
hell, its only 2 and a half weeks, you could leave them in the incubator, and when you return, voila, ready to birth cakes, fully colonized
if you had said 5 weeks, i probably would've given the same advice, to be honest
had you said 3 months, i would've suggested another long term storage idea
