I just got some P.Viridis leaf cuttings, should I plant them in soil?? I have heard they root well in soil.
Experience????
From what I understand the soil should be fairly damp, but not soaking, and, smile.gif the leaves should be misted on a regular basis. Correct??
I am using an organic seed starter mix( a pre mixed bag thatI use for various seeds, and cuttings, not to mention some herbs, sometimes I mix in extra perlite etc, and often I mix in organic ferts, which I have a bunch of, what are the NPK for P.V.???? The soil I am using contains Peat Moss, Compost and Perlite.
THANK YOU

is the brown part actually from the woody stem?
either way i would cut up to soft green and root in water with a bubbler.
good luck and post pics if you can

I root viridis cuttings much the same way I do my african violets. Just put the leaf into the soil (well draining, lots of sand) at a slight angle and bury it from 1/2 inch to an inch deep. Then put a ziplock over it or some sort of plastic inclosure. Then just keep it damp, not soggy, and be patient, it should take maybe 6-8 weeks, maybe longer. I would cut off the brown part, it may be prone to rotting if buried.

Best to not cover with plastic as mold and steaming from high heat of summer. Best to mist soil a few times daily and keep in full shade but outside where there is ambient light. Best to use loose soil. Best to get rooting hormone.

just bury the base of the leaves in dirt and keep it moist... it takes some time and the leaves might even die but sprouts will appear eventually... good luck!

Yo man this is whats up..... Just stick the leaf in a glass of water stem and all. Or stick the leaves in damp soil like what you mentioned. I wouldn't worry about how light the mix is. A thick organic compost works just as good. It takes a month for the roots to strike out. It takes another month for the shoots to pop out. often you get two to three good stems. Another tip when you place the leaves in their rooting media make sure to snap the midrib or main vein that divides the leaves in two. Make at least several snaps. These snaps will encourage root growth from those points. Within a year you will have healthy small shrubs well on their way to bushdom.
