Ok...WHF is that?
    #5772850 - 06/20/06 03:23 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

The reason I'm posting this here is because all the UFO skeptics are here (diploid and such), and I really don't want to start another UFO discussion, I just want to hear a logical explanation of what I saw.

I was visiting my parents, and we were sitting in the backyard, it was night (just minutes ago)
And then I saw some kind of a light flying on a straight line from west to east right above us.
The light was pretty fast, sort of 45 degrees of my view in 2 minutes.
There was no sound at all.

Ok, so I though a REALLY fast NATO plane going very high without any sound.

Then later I saw another such light comming from southeast and going toward northwest. It was just a few minutes later. Again it was
going with such speed with no sound, but this time it seemed to be changing altitude because it was getting gradually dimmer until it dissapeared (the entire sky was clear, and there was a star visible near the place it dissapeared, so I'm counting out clouds, and it must have been altitude change)
Ok, now I though, maybe its the same plane only made a circle and went there.

A few minutes later is saw another light going from the same direction (SE-->NW), again no sound and really fast.
In some 3-4 minutes it cruised my entire visible sky but this time it didn't seem to change altitude but went straight northwest until I could see it anymore because it was getting too small.

Then I toled my mother about this, so she stared in the sky with me as a second witness.

We looked, but this time instead of that we both saw some kind of flashes of light, a single flash was the strength of the brightest star on the sky, and it flashed in intervals of maybe 5 seconds in between, moved some 5 degree of the sky, and the flashes were getting dimmer every next flash. Then it dissapeared.

Then, whoila, another light was cruising the sky, same speed, no sound, same place of origin and same direction SE-NW
This time we both were looking at it, and now comes the strange part.
While it was certainly going on a straight line, its path was sort of jumpy, and went zig-zagish (compared to surrounding stars), it looked like a bug who was traveling on a straight line.
Both my mother and me saw it like that.
But the imperfect path could have been our eyes playing tricks.

Forgot to mention, the light was continuous, it didn't blink for a second

Then we got REALLY freaked interested, and climbed on the garage where there is less light polution.
And again we saw another one, same behaviour, no sound, and another one

In the end far, on the northwest sky we saw again the same kind of flashes.

And finally we saw an event that lasted maybe half a second, a meteor falling, though it didn't have a tail.

So now I ask all of you.
What the fuck is all this?

I really don't know much about skies and atmosphere, or plains for that matter, so someone fill me in.
I really don't like the idea of space ships flying over my house, so someone better give me a logical explanations.
Are there bugs that glow and travel like that? I've never seen a bug before that goes on such a straight path.
What are those huge flashes?
The lights were going maybe 5 times faster than passanger jets (angle speed, angle of view, I'm not suggesting they were traveling 5 times faster in air), yet they were making zero sound, so they had to go REALLY high, which translates this angular speed into air speed well over mach 1.

One more thing, if those are some kind of military planes, they aren't Croatian. Does NATO fly their super fast fighter planes around Europe like that or what?

I've seen shooting stars, planes helicopters, and all kinds of stuff, but I've never in my life seen anything like this, and I've seen it 6-7 times in one hour now.

what the hell is that?

Sounds like satellites to me - they'll appear as a single light in the sky, moving rather fast (they'll go horizon to horizon in a minute or two at most) with absolutely no sound at all.

I've also seen a few that seem to blink or twinkle in some way, and I believe this is caused by satellites which rotate as they orbit - the "blinks" are caused by solar panels and other reflective objects catching the sun as the satellite rotates around.

There's just one thing..

you said one minute, two at most.

This one too like 5-6 minutes, is it still the same?

Yeah I would expect so. Satellites at different altitudes will move at vastly different speeds. You may have spotted one that was really out there, so it would be moving a lot slower than the ones I'm used to seeing (which are closer, so much brighter, but also much faster).
