Peat/perlite casing

I did a couple searches but couldnt find info on substituting perlite for verm in the 50/50+ casing. I've called or checked everywhere in my area and no one carries verm anymore. My only choice is to order it, but if perlite is an ok substitute that would be simpler.

Anyone have opinions or experience with this?

don't substitute perlite for vermiculite, it doesn't do the same thing.

I understand that they are different but isnt the purpose the same when it comes to casing?? They both help airate the casing layer and retain moisture - so shouldnt it work??

because perlite doesnt absorb water like verm does. It will also create a soggy mess out of your casing layer and substrate.

Perlite is not a substitute for verm. Coir and peat would work much better then perlite.
