Well, the first time was when I was a kid, so I was just too damn scared to try and stomp it. I knew they could jump fast and far.

The second time, it was just fight/flight reflex, flight won... probably because of the memory of the first time.

I'm deathly afraid of spiders

Normally I attempt to kill them, but if a venomous one makes a run at me I generally retreat.

> Seeing as how you don't have a male in there with her

Most female insects, spiders included, can mate once keeping the sperm alive within them until it is needed at a later time (or times). I wouldn't count on the egg sac being infertile, but it can happen.

oh, i thought you were worried about killing a spider as far as karma and all that goes.  its one thing to avoid killng random insects, but letting them run you around is a bit much.

no me gusta spiders either.  i turn into a four year old girl when i see one.

Gunbob, you were always addicted to NPR. Even at such a tender young age as this:

Remember when we took that picture? It was 1982 and we were on our way to visit the fjords and we stopped at Bjorn Borg's house.

Just get rid of the egg sacs like everyone says. No harm in keeping the black widow as a pet as long as you have a proper cage. We used to go hunting for them in the mt's of NC, like most things in life if you don't piss it off or scare the spider they won't harm you.

Keep the widow, dipose of the eggs in a Karma friendly manner or if you don't believe in the hooplah, burn it.

I have a pet Black Widow too, how about keeping an egg sac and trying to sell them as they get older, there could be some good money in it

Eat them? Spider eggs are a great source or protein, but them again so is sperm.

Not true. It's dangerous all the time, but you can have it used more than once. I have. It's even commercially available (the antivenom). But it can cause complications, even used once.

I've been bit by a black widow 2 times, never recieved antivenom, it's painful,
it itches and it burns, but it's not lethal to a healthy adult, it will kill babies, the old and infirm
