try radio shack i saw an ad for one for $30. i bought one on ebay for $30, i would have gone to radio shack but it was too late i had already placed the bid. luckily i came up even. also be sure to buy a digital one not analog( looks like a watch). those are plastic and very cheap.

if your goin to radio shack be careful which one you get. i bought one there, it said indoor/outdoor (make sure you get one for outdoor use) and it had the sensor on like a two foot cord, seemes like it was gonna work out great, right, well no it was the stupidest thing. now it wasnot waterproof, which didnt matter cause thats why it had the sensor, but it was designed so that the base stayed inside and the sensor was outside. the humidity meter was for the inside, who the hell cares what the humidity is inside, and it coudlnt get wet either so it was useless. (note that inside means out of the terrarium, and outside would mean in the terrarium), i am speaking of it as the way it was intended to be used. well as long as you get one that is used for outdoors without a stupid sensor on a cord, your good, just stick in right in there and everything is good.

The one at radio shack is called a remote sensor. It's 30 bucks and it's bad ass. If you want to spend 60 you can get a base unit with one remote that you can sit on you desk and monitor the humidity up to three terrariums. I bought a red one off ebay that says "Sper Scientific" on it for twenty bucks.(digital) It is a peice of shit. I can get hygrometers for humidors for 3 bucks that are fairly accurate after they are calibrated. Beware of the red ones. Junk! Hope that helps. Free Spore Ring

Forget Radio Shack. You need a good hygrometer, the kind they use in cigar humidors. Check out the hygrometer page at www.cigarhumidors123.com They have a thermometer/hygrometer for $19, accurate and the lowest price I've seen yet.

Anno. sitting in a store the other day, lkooking at an analogue humidity guage, and 4 digital ones (the analog and at least 2 of the 4 digis said relative humidity) the thing was, all hte digital ones said 24-25, and the analog one was saying 60%. i couldnt quite understand that. even if it wasnt calibrated, why would it be that far off?

People dis radioshack hyrdometers because they have had radioshack hydrometers that have broken. I am one of them. Perhaps radioshack has some models that don't suck, but enough people on here have gotten burned that the store has gotten a bad reputation.

yeah analog hydrometers are great but can be expensive. the digital from radioshack are very accurate, accurate enough anyway. I myself would love to have a analog meter but i am not that anal about it. i dont think that it will make much of a difference.
