I was just thinking about war in general and how we feel like anything that happens against us (a soldier or civilian dying)is portrayed as an unbelievable atrosity (sp?). We make it seem like the only right way to "win" is to kill more people and that it is the right way for us to think (kill more = victory).
What I don't understand is how the United States has made such a fuss about Pearl Harbor. Think about it...War planes bombing a military base and killing people. It seems like we have "pearl harbored" many countries numerous times but when it happens to us the shit hits the fan. An airstrike on a military base so we drop a nuke on 2 cities and kill hundreds of thousands. Now we are in Iraq and Afghanistan and doing the same thing as the Japense. The first day of the war you turn on Fox, CBS, NBS whatever and we are bombing their airfields. Sounds alitle similar but we are actualy taking out civilians in the process. Imagine a country calling an airstrike on a US city. It is just messed up

Civilians die during war, even in Pearl Harbor. Every man and woman that was killed during Pearl Harbor was innocent. They did nothing wrong. I will agree that we are, in a sense, doing the same thing. However, the difference now is that we cant tell who the enemy is. I watched a dateline or 60 minutes special where children were using baby monitors to let insurgents know when to set of IEDs on the side of the road. When you cant tell who the enemy is, the safest thing to do is assume everyone is the enemy. Its a sad assumption to be made and innocent people die, but its war and it keeps US safe. To be perfectly honest, I dont care about Abu-Jafar over in Iraq (or any other country), I care about the people in our military coming home safe. If they have to kill innocent people to ensure their own safety... then so be it. Its a dirty double edge sword, but if it was my children over there I would rather them come home safe than not take the right precautions.
