Legal advice on introduction of non-active culture on state property
    #5769379 - 06/19/06 07:04 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

I have some Panellus Stipticus culture that I'm considering introducing to some of the wood chip filled flower beds around a state university. What issues might I run into with the law by doing this?

For those of you not familiar with Panellus Stipticus, they're also knows as Bitter Oysterlings and Luminiscent Panellus. This species grows in the dark and is similar in appearance to a "leathery" oyster. It has a very bitter taste according to several websites. Haven't tasted it myself.

Some of the areas around campus already have naturally growing(I'd assume... I didn't introduce them) fungal bodies, so some Panellus Stipticus wouldn't seem so out of place durring the day I suppose. I think it would be hard to miss at night though  :1up:

I have no idea how pervasive or aggressive P. Stipticus mycelium is.

I do know that there is some crappy brown mushgroom that grows in my mulch beds that has the largest mycelial mass I have ever seen and turns fresh mulch into a mycelial sponge/brick in less than a month. It is very hard to remove it and it not regrow fully. I consider it annoying and had someone come along and intentionally "inoculated" my mulchbed with this particular variety I would consider it vandalism and destruction of property.

Ah, good call on the aggressiveness. I should definetly do some further controled experimentation before releasing this in such a matter. Thanks for bringing up that side of things debian!

Any other comments on legal or environmental repercussions?
