This is a very good question. I can see perma banning someone who poses an imminent threat to the communities well being. (exposed government agents, someone who has made serious threats of violence towards others, continually rips off people in trades, etc..) However this is not the case a lot of the times.

Maybe with nearly 50,000 members they think it no thing,
I dont think they always use the best judgment, but I am glad that I am not the one that has to decide things like that.

Is that a joke?
that wasn't a joke
making posts and threads in my name (whatever the "loophole" is) is about as lame as government agents.
like I said, good riddance

So you're saying that creating threads in somebody elses journal (the loophole) is just as bad as trying to bust people for growing mush? That's most ignorant thing I've heard all day, you win the blue ribbon.

what she did was a bit more than that and as opposed to reporting it she continued on her exploits, all this just 2 days after she came back from a 60 day ban

That wasn't the "loophole."
Meatspace found a vulnerability in the code used to manage posts/threads (ie: lock, unlock, move, sticky, unsticky, etc.). If she found the code, tried it out once to see if it worked, then told the admins about it, she'd still be here. Instead, the abused the exploit with malicious intent to the site until someone noticed what she was doing.
End point: she used an exploit with malicious intent against the website(some would say "hacked" the website). So she's banned for life. She could be in a lot worse position. Most webmasters take legal action against people who exploit their websites with malicious intent. "Hacking" is now viewed as an act of terrorism. Things could be a lot worse. She was lucky to just get a permaban.
Electrode was letting a banned member(one who harmed the site) use his name to post, so he was banned too. Thats how it works.
