For those who have grown rice cakes:
What was the longest time that you ever had to wait before pinning started after you put them into the fruiting chamber?

Wow, did you get a decent yield, though?

and as far as brf cakes go... i guess i had a decent flush. i'm going to have my hand at casing soon though, because brf cakes just too much time for so little yield.
but yeah, i've gone just about 2 weeks w/o pinning, then all of a sudden they started... i just didnt have my pinning triggers right at all...

I read you can put the cakes in a refridgerator for a bit to induce cold shock pinning.

If you are growing cubensis, cold shocking does nothing. If you want faster pinning, expose them to light at 50-75% colonization, don't dunk till after the first flush, go right into the FC at birth with a DEC--and make sure the conditions are right in the FC. Even with all that, nothing is guaranteed.

What is a "DEC"?
(Normally I'd try and look it up in the glossary, but I can't seem to look up any other terms past the letter "A" right now.)

Sorry, that's double-end casing: adding a moistened bottom layer of vermiculite (or other casing materials) about the thickness of a jar band and a thin top layer to a PF cake. It's a good way to feed water to the cakes. You can also roll the cake in vermic. for a nice micro-climate. Dunk the cake in clean water for about 24 hours in the fridge after the first flush, then repeat the DEC and rolling--just use a canning jar for this (with no holes in the lid). You can dunk at birth, but the cold temps (while staving off contams) will delay pinning a few days. So it depends on yer needs. Use a clean syringe or eye dropper to feed the casings. Once you see pins, stop watering. Less is more with this really, as a lot of newbies drown their cakes and then wonder why they got aborts and tiny fruits.
