Ok, i just got back home, and FINNALY got to take a real shower. Now, for recolection. Who all went, and what did you do while there? I got some acid first day, then hippyflipped for the rest of the time. At least 2 rolls, and 1/8 of shrooms every day. And redoses at 10 PM. I really dont know what happend while i was there, but there were 100,000 hippies and i was at home more there then ever before, anywhere! The heat was intenese, beautifull, but scorching. I am now burnt out, and will sleep for the next 24 hours. Lets see how much this thread grows...

It really bothers me when people equate a good time with the amount of drugs that they consumed.

Tell me, in your drug-fueled haze did you happen to catch Radiohead's set?
Did it leave you feeling insignificant?

Ahhh, but that doesnt mean they were my whole or any significant part of my experiance. My experiance stems from the people, places, sights, and music that i found while in this amazing place. Drugs are simply a side effect.

That's not what it seems when you have nothing to offer us in terms of people, places, sights and sounds...but instead a detailed discription of what was consumed.

It bother me too! cuz they never share!
Joke but yeah. Drugs are really the down fall of most.
I wish all the people that go and enjoy music actually know how to enjoy the music sober. Going to festivals and going around and growing up i have scene enough to assume that drugs make for a boring time unless you are totally fuxed up. Cats that smoke pot all day get so boring ay wanna hang out? ok lets go on a blunt cruise.... egh i rather do something other then drive and smoke. Lets create or actually do something instead.
Pot is the lesser of evils, and it takes time to work out a balance in your life. But when you are young like many of the users at shows and on here its hard to have a balance.
Like stay up all night spun out fall asleep around 5 am. Then wake up and be like a total spunion the whole day makes for great conversation.......

Oh man, that's depressing. I wanted to go so badly too.. the lineup was sick, but things just didn't work out for me either.
it could be worse tho, i had a friend who had a ticket to "IT" in Maine and no way to get there.
what a waste.

I dont see the enjoyment of wadeing through hurds of people in 100 degree weather with no shade probably drunk and stoned trying to get to 3 stages at the same time because the lineup pits all the bands i wanna see against each other. I am a fan of low key advents without all the publicity. Where i can chill out catch all the music i want to see with out conflicting times.
If i ended up at bonnaroo i would have prolly done nothing more then pop from site to site making friends. I would have only gone to catch tunes during the cover of darkness.

the sun was too powerful and it was too fucking hot
i got sunburned on friday then ended up 50ft away from Petty
which was FUCKING AMAZING what a killer band they sounded great
ate acid mushrooms smoked a shitload of weed and drank tons of capt morgan
went to radiohead, stayed for 10 minutes and got high, then left because it was kind of slow
matisyahu was the shit too
did you eat those yellow-square gel tabs that were all over the place?

I admit I am not a fan of overcrowdedness, long walks, etc. but a lot of my favorite musicians were there, and having never been to a single Bonnaroo and this probably being my last chance, I bought my ticket early and figured I'd be able to sell it if I couldn't work it out.
Unfortunately, some people are assholes.

I used to go to Warped Tour and gave that up because it wasn't worth the toll it took on my body. I don't just want to see a band for 5 minutes and have to move along to the next so I don't miss all my favorite acts.
The way Bonnaroo is arranged would have easily allowed me to see most/all of my favorites without sacrificing hardly any of their shows.
I could have been in the woods miles out of the venue and still enjoyed myself. It's the moment, the music, and the vibes that get me off.. can't put a price tag on that.

Thursday: Didint do much, set up camp. Watched "Tortured Soul". They just wouldent let go of the crowd. So alive, just tearing it up.
Friday: Woke up late, stayed at camp till the heat left. Watched the last half of "oysterhead" AMAZING! Then stayed for "Tom Petty" Show started late, and left, i felt, early. Then i went back to camp.
Saturday: Watched last of "Beck" awesome puppet show lol. Stayed for "Radiohead" OMG so lost in the musc. Amazing, amazing. Sunday: Watched "Matisyahu", but of course. Crazy show, very alive. Left early after that show.
Monday: Slept in the airport, and caught my flight back. Amazing weekend!

maybe I'm getting old, but I agree 100%
I haven't been back to the 'Roo in two years, not because of a bad experience, but mainly because I can't be bothered.....that and the line-ups don't thrill me as much these days.
I'm glad all went well down there and a blast was had by all the humanity, but I'll take my festie experiences on the smaller side.

oooooooo boogats, yellow geltabs? damn, were they good? knew i shoulda went. Radiohead was slow huh. I've been to one Radiohead show. It was in Grant park in Chicago, best fucking show ive ever seen.
i wanted to go to the roo this year but couldnt make it. i went to the first three and told myself i would never go back but the line up this year seemed the best ever to me. its a great time and an even better memory. there are some drawbacks to a big fest but they are inevitable with the benifits it provides. definitley glad ive had the experience and recomend it to anyone whos into that sort of stuff.

Claypool was really good with skerik,Gabby lala and the drummers.Better that show than Oysterhead I think.

I had a great time. We got a good camp site. Had a sweet tent/tarp shade city. Getting there early on thursday and setting up in the camping only area is key. We could see the main stage from our camp.
Great music, good times, potent drugs.
Was year 4 in a row and ill be back next year as long as the lineup doesnt suck.

Had a fucking amazing time! Was just stoned most of the time, though on Saturday I candy-flipped or hippy-flipped or whatever and saw the Superjam and Sasha, which was without a doubt the highlight of my time at Roo.
Anyone from camp Goodhead or Pussygalore?

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Phil Lesh & Friends' awesome show. Two fuckin amazing sets.
Set I: Uncle John's Band Cumberland Blues Big River Scarlet Fire Jam All Along the Watchtower I Know You Rider
Set II: Shakedown Street New Speedway Boogie then it gets a little blurry from there but I can tell you there was a great cover of Gimme Shelter, followed by Not Fade Away and Midnight Hour, with a chunk of The Other One thrown in there somewhere.
Encore: Box of Rain, of course. It was nice to see the emotion on Phil's face as he played it on Father's day.
At some point during the second set it started to downpour. Like torrential shit. A lot of people left, but there was nothing that was gonna take me away from Phil.
Bonnaroo 06 was definitely a blast.

Yeah, Phil and Friends was awesome! Joan Osborne can really sing and she's goddamn sexy. And I was so glad it rained, it cleared out the field of the pussies...
Other highlights: Toubab Krewe on Friday night Robert Randolph (G.Love guested) The Hunab Kru breakdancers from Asheville The Gypsy Hands tribal belly dancers Cypress motherfuckin' Hill Radiohead rocked The Fire Garden was awesome Soulive Bela Fleck and the Flecktones
and the two best musical moments: Sonic Youth! Friday Night hip hop (Lyrics Born, Common, and Blackalicious)
Kickass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Five years in a row and I'm going back next year. It's superhot, dusty, expensive, lots of walking, scheduling conflicts, etc. but those are just minor hurdicles on the road to ecstacy (the state, not the drug). Bonnaroooooooooooooooo

The best moments at roo for me musically was EASILY Radiohead, Phil Lesh and the Biscuits. I think the three of them put on such stellar shows for those 3 i felt like the crowd shut up and gave them thier undivided attention and really got lost.
The biggest disappointment for me was Oysterhead, the sound was fucking crap, they really put like no effort into making that shit sound good and trey was a fucking mess half the time, he was playing sloppily, i mean towards the end it was really good. Army on ecstacy was the shit. but overall i expected a lot more and trey single handedly fucked it up for me.
Overall the weeked was really great. I met 4 or 5 shroomerites and one of my biggest regrets of the weekend was not hanigng out with them more.

How far back were you from the stage during Oysterhead? I was front row (had to wait through all of Steel Pulse and a half hour prior to get that spot), and the sound was pristine (well, obviously).

I had a pretty good time. My highlights were Phil Lesh, Bela Fleck, the superjam consisting of Trey, Mike Gordon & Benevento Russo Duo (w/ a surprise appearance by Phil Lesh), and Tom Petty. There were LOTS more bands that I liked when I went two years ago but I still had fun. Some pics:
Oysterhead:

Yee olde mushroom fountain:

We were lucky enough to find a stream right bu our camp site. Bathing there was the bes tthing I did for myself the whole weekend.

Phil Lesh & Friends:

Enjoying the shade:

At one point either people got much smaller or objects got much bigger:

i had a wonderful time without any real drugs
i reallly loved phil lesh and friends, but the rain kinda did me in and i left that show a half hour early...
radio head and moe were fucking amazing, as well as sasha's set, even came back and threw down sphongle for an encore !
i managed to find not only my friends from home, but lots of shroomites, and a few friends that i only see every year at bonnaroo !
monday was awesome as always. i was going to leave at like 9am, but said fuck it managed to find my friends from tenessee who camped down the street from me. all monday we just walked around looking for ground scores and what not. found myself a tight ass bubbler and a reallly fancy hitter, never used... and managed to score 2 easy ups
i was however disapointed that while i was walking around, people were robbing other peoples tents blind, including security guys just ransacking peoples stuff and tents. also saw 2 kids straight up go into some dudes tent, take well over $500 and his batteries and other shit...
i was calling them out for it, but in reality i couldnt really do anything
the shroomery camp was a damn good time, and i was glad to see so many of you irl.
im sorry to say that the weather did not allow the floating of the shroomery banner for more than half a day and that the octipus weighted tooo much, even filled with helium, to fly.
however somehow it made it to the main stage for phil lesh, and was dancing in the crowd!, they had it on the screens and everyhing!

Army on ecstacy was the shit. but overall i expected a lot more and trey single handedly fucked it up for me.
Overall the weeked was really great. I met 4 or 5 shroomerites and one of my biggest regrets of the weekend was not hanigng out with them more.
Oysterhead let me down as well. But Les made up for it saturday by with skerik and gabby. That was a badass show.During David Makalaster he went into southbound pachyderm and then backinto David Makalaster.Woo
It is horrible that there were thinks going on like people stealing stuff from campsites.I dont understand why people want something they cant have so bad that they resort to taking it from another person.

I found a camp site where people had one of those octopi on top of their shade tent. I went up to them and asked if they were from the Shroomery and they said no.
I should have taken down Blissed's cell phone number.

i was standing kinda far back and to the right a little but i stood mor or less the same spot for all of the people performing on the main stage, beck and radiohead and tom petty and lesh and even moe sounded 100 times better just in sound then oysterhead did. i couldn't even hear Les Claypool's voice or bass at a lot of the time. Whatever though, i expected more, it didn't meet my expectations but it was still cool to see the three of those people on stage.

yea like i said, it was really Trey who let me down. Les Claypool is a badass mother fucker! i was so happy to see him and buckethead on stage together at Waka. I really gained so much more respect for les Claypool after seeing him live.

I had a great time this year. My girlfriend and I just left the schedule in our tent most of the time, and wandered around the campsites, caught shows in the smaller tents. We did no drugs except for a few beers and the odd hit here or there if someone passed us a bowl. We caught some great unexpected shows this way, and were able to stay up for the late night shows because we weren't all burnt out by midnight.
We took lots of pictures and I'll post em once we get them developed.
Umphrees / Disco Biscuits set was amazing. They covered Baby You're a Rich Man by the Beatles into Another Brick in the Wall part 3, into the last two songs of Dark Side of the Moon. So good!
Trey & Mike Gordon's show was a lot of fun. Some of their new songs are a little weak imo, but there were a lot of great moments, and it was great to see them interacting on stage and hear some classic trey guitar work. Phil Lesh came out and sang Casey Jones, which is always great.
The last night was Phil Lesh & Friends, and it was the greatest part of the weekend for me. I raged through the rain and danced like a maniac for hours, stone sober. All I needed was that music!
I didn't like Radiohead at all. We stayed about an hour and that was all we could take.

wow... i agreed with everything you said until i read the radiohead part. I mean I've seen better radiohead shows before but it was still a good solid dose of them and they sounded decadent in my opinion. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it.
Phil lesh was probably the happiest i felt out of wakarusa and bonnaroo though. that show was stellar.

I had my best Roo' yet, paced myself, got enough sleep, water and didn't consume more drugs than I could handle. In fact I only smoked maybe three bowls while at Bonnaroo. I got to see almost every show that I wanted to see except Bela and superjam, but I will catch the Duo with Trey and Gordo at 10K. I met a few shroomerites such as anewwaytosayhooray(?) Yoschie, Psilocybe and Gillete. My two favorite shows were Radiohead and Phil and Friends, jesus christ that show was EPIC for me. Here's some pics, more to come....peace.

My highlights were the Disco Biscuits and Phil Lesh. I danced nearly nonstop for both. I also got to know a girl from my state and met up with some Nookers for the first time.
I got tons of pictures and had wonderful conversations. The best four days of my life so far.

Such is the attitude towards these festies. It's fueled by society's tabbooing of the whole culture. It helps people feel like they're "cool". I'm cool and I consumed drugs, but I was there for the comraderie and music. Whatever though, right?

Damn, that's crazy that some of y'all were mostly sober. Not to knock sobriety, but there's just something about taking drugs along with tens of thousands of other happy, music-loving, dancing drug-taking fools. I personally ate acid Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; partook in a roll for the triple hip-hop threat on Friday, and smoked a couple blunts and countless bowls throughout the weekend. On Monday before we left I took several minutes to puff a blunt standing on the street corner, just because I could! No paranoia (the only authority figures are 15 feet tall ) and acceptance of personal choice is a great environment to do drugs in, not to mention the abundance of great live music. Plus you can find some real interesting folks and have some far-out conversations, just by smiling and dancing in the crowd. I was high all weekend, not ever too high, but very high!
