$700

So I went to get my car checked out today for the trip to OHIO...and it turns out that I need about $700 worth of repairs done. That is just a little bit more then what I have in my savings account.
Two front wheel bearings Two front control arms Rear brakes A weld in the exhaust And an alignment to top it all off
So I think I am still going to ohio, but I'm going to be a day late, arriving on thursday instead of wednesday. I won't be able to do some of the extra fun stuff I wanted to do (like see the Rock N Roll hall of fame...go to cedar point) and I won't be paying my phone bill until NEXT month.
But at least I'll be there.
Anyone who feels like sending me money can go right ahead and send me a pm, I will accept all donations.
I will be referring to the Hyundai from here on out as 'The Cancer Patient'. I'm pretty glad that I did get it checked out, however, before I was cruising down the interstate and my front wheels flew off into oncoming traffic.
When the mechanic showed me how loose the control arms were, I could actually see fear in his eyes. He said I probably should not have actually driven the cancer patient to the shop, very much less the grocery store, or ohio.
Le sigh.

No, he actually showed me the damage. I totally needed new bearings and new control arms. There was no getting around it.
I took it to three different places, too....just in case. They all told me pretty much the same thing, and I took it back to the guy who gave me the cheapest estimate.
Maybe I'll just sell the car and get a scooter.
That would be fun.

Scooters are fun. Good gas mileage. Seriously.
Just hope it doesn't rain.

The only thing i would consider fixing would be the bearings and maybe the breaks.

Are you guys bitchslapping each other in my pity thread?
I'm thinking about selling hemp to make some repair money, but I don't like monetary gain at gatherings, I'd rather trade for goods and services.
I have lots of hemp. Maybe I can use this to my advantage.

I been making a bunch of hemp too.
I got belts and a bunch of necklaces I will leave them at home though.
I would make you a bunch of mushroom pendants but my setup isn't setup.

bom:
Get a Segway.
Interesting that you should make this post around this time. I have to drive to Virginia from southern Florida next week, and back again after that. Took my car to have it serviced and maintenanced, the guy hands me $750 worth of shit. I could almost have flown for that price.
I feel your pain.
edit- meant to be addressing CherryBom, not the corporal.

It is too bad!
It is too bad we all arn't a lot more things.
But who is gonna do something about it?
Do you think i know HOW to repair such n such?
Answer is no, not till i try it.
I do know how to turn a wrench though, i do know how to keep track of every thing i take off and put how to put it back. With that and the car manual you can fix just about anything.
Bom you know i am not knocking you! right? Being a waitress kicks ass! Thats the only reason i like to go out to dinner well that and to eat.

That's pretty much the cornerstone of any sound "do-it-yourself" logic. Personally, I don't have the time to devote to tinkering with my car the moment or else I'd have already started the process. It's easier(key) and more practical for me right now to have someone else do that shit.
If it were only the brakes that need fixing, I could handle that myself. I'll leave the more involved stuff to the real mechanics.
