Inside the "disc" is actually ASCII.

You mean the dots in the disc can be converted to ASCII? What does it read?

I'm intrigued... is it the standard key for ACSII or is it a message?

According to the Pinchbeck's book the disc says:
"Beware the bearers of FALSE gifts & their BROKEN PROMISES. Much PAIN but still time. [Damaged Word] There is GOOD out there. We OPpose DECEPTION. Conduit CLOSING (BELL SOUND)."
"The damaged or obscure part was first interpreted as "EELIJ?E"; later it seemed to many interpreters that it intended to spell the world "believe."
Everything I just typed is EXACTLY how it appears in the book. No typos.

I'd guess that if it is really ASCII, it's in binary form. Every so many degrees around the circle at a given radius represents a bit... (kinda guessing here?) Places where the wheat still remains might be a 1, and places where it's been flattened might be a 0. So if you were to read around the circle you might get 10010101110100101010101011 (etc) or something.
Every 8 characters represents a byte, which denotes a ASCII character. So you'd need a lot of free time to decode that crop circle.
