WORLD NAKED BIKE RIDE 2006

June 10, 2006 was the date for the World Naked Bike Ride, which -- as its name suggests -- is an international political event at which protesters take off all their clothes and ride bicycles through various cities around the globe.
The focus of the protest is theoretically to encourage people to give up their "dependence on fossil fuel" -- but in practice the messages (which the organizers tell participants to paint directly on their bodies) are more scattered, ranging from "free speech" to presidential politics.

as an avid bicyclist and someone who does not drive, I participated in the event here in chicago. although, I didnt go entirely naked along with others - a bit cold that day in chicago. Trust me, there were plenty of attractive people. Alot of fun. Perhaps only the fuglies were photographed...?

The irony is that if a lot of these people actually rode, they wouldn't be that fat.

At our ride, it was more 60/40 women/men. Maybe whoever put up the page from the 1st link only took pictures of fat men to fit his agenda.

Naw. If you go to his link and look at the full set of pics, you'll see fat women, too. And one not unattractive young lady.

Already did that. You dont think that guy only put up pictures of these people to mock the event? Did you not see the main page? He's obviously of the rightwing and interested in mocking leftwing events.
At least in Chicago, there were young and attractive women partipating.

He says there were about sixty people there. I'd say he took pictures of at least three dozen of those, probably more. Not every pic showed a fat guy, or a fat woman.
You say things were different in Chicago. I have no reason to doubt you. The thing is, that guy wasn't in Chicago. He was in San Francisco.
As for him putting up pictures chosen to "mock" the event, I couldn't help noticing there are more pictures of the cute chick than of any other participant. Let's face it, he can only work with what he has, and in San Francisco he didn't have a lot to work with.

Who the hell makes T-Shirts for a bike ride? http://www.worldnakedbikeride.org/resources/tshirt/tshirt.htm
I see only one skinny chick and she hardly looks fit. I wish I were in SanFrancisco still. I would have rode with the naked people but I wouldnt have gotn naked myself.

I thought San Francisco was full of gay dudes. And I thought gay dudes were all healthy and into their bodies. There should be muscular and fit bodies everywhere. Yet, all we see is flab.

well, if the number 60 is correct, then the organizers of this event did a shit job. in chicago, the number was in the hundreds - maybe 400-700 hundred. but then again, chicago is a bicycle-friendly city. even the government is creating more bike paths and other initiatives to get people to ride. there are all times of bike rides - from critical mass (unofficial) to the Lake Shore Drive ride (official) + many more.
so, I wouldnt judge the populace of san francisco or the bicyclist of that city on those pictures alone.

SanFrancisco is a very bicycle friendly city.
It must have been poor planning, no permits or local laws that kept the event from being a BIG hit because believe me if it were done right it would have been the biggest.
Ever hear of Critical Mass?
Its a bicycle movement thats been going on for years. Cycleists demanding better conditions and laws. http://www.scorcher.org/cmhistory/

phred is checking out the pictures for other reasons unrelated to politics.
