with casing I understand the yeild is higher but how much higher than cakes? a percentage? perhaps average wet/dry grams if i were using say 12 half pint colonized jars per tray? can anyone ball park this or is it too many parameters to estimate. any help is appreciated.

Why dont you do both for your first grow?
This is what I did to get my feet wet in the grow process. So far, the casing seems to be doing better than the cake grow. Once you get comfortable with the PF tek, go to grains. (WBS is TITS) -Me

lets see avg cake produces 3 dry grams
avg casing produces about 10-20x that amount.
you do the math.

too many parameters to estimate.
i totally agree on doing both, because you can easily take pf cakes and fruit them as a cake, or just as easily crumble them up into little pieces and case them... so do some of each and see for yourself what you prefer... and at the same time you learn the naunces of casing while still having an almost "garuntee" to still get results from some of the cakes. cakes do have the upside of being convenient and super easy even if they wont yield as much in the long run.
here's an example, a harvest from yesterday that was two cakes crumbled and cased. got 125 wet grams, so that works out roughly to little over 6g dry per cake, from a single flush. whereas flushes on a cake fruited as a cake are usually in the 3-4g range.

(haha sorry i've been pimping that picture in a few threads now, it just looks so cool )

so u got 12g dry from two half-pint cakes? or two pint cakes? regardless, that is a big differance.

I started with cakes for my first grow thne with some prompting from these members telling me that it is not as hard as one might think, I did casings and there is a big difference in yield. I still play with cakes but just see the neat way they come off of the cakes. You will get some interesting looking cakes some times(lol)
