The most potent time to pick?

I've read several places that the most potent time to pick a mushroom is as the veil is breaking off of the cap? Since my first flush is on its way, I'm really curious when would be the best time to pick these shrooms, supposing they are for personal use? And one more thing, I recently found some video Teks that depict the grower soaking his cakes in mineral water after 100% colonization, now my first thought was that the cakes would simply get water logged and turn into a nasty mush. Is this true or should I consider doing it. The video said, this would create several more successful flushes with bigger fruit bodies, is this true or far fetched? Maybe only for a certain type of cake?
Anyone that could help would be a great help, as I said my cakes are finished and I would love to know the best time to pick and a Tek to insure the largest fruit bodies possible. These are Vermi/Long Brown Rice colonized with Mexi-Cub strain from earthstounge.

hes doing what is called dunking dunking rehydrates tre cake after incubation and every flush because the cake loses moisture when it fruits. dunk from 12-20 hjours more than 24 will usually killyuor cakes. you can also roll in verm after you have dunked your cakes it is very beneficial to dunk good luck

there's really no straight answer on the best time to pick for potency. people make cliams every which way but the fact is there's never been conclusive scientific examination of the situation to be certain. some believe that the alkaloid production stops when spore production starts, but nobody really knows that for sure. you'll get a hundred different opinions because the truth is nobody really knows. your eventual experiences may lead you one way or another, but so be it. at the end of the day young mushrooms and mature mushrooms both do the trick and any differences that may occur are so small its really negligible.
that being said, its best to pick as the viel is about to tear or is tearing. has little to do with potency, but more so for asthetics - mushrooms get ugly looking as the caps turn upward! not only that, but once they drop spores it makes a mess. hard to clean purple dust all over the place. and spores taste nasty. once they hit that stage they aren't going to gain much more mass, just change shape a bit but they're as big as they're going to get (they may appear a little bigger if you let them continue to mature, but if you compare actual weight you're not gaining much if anything.) so catch them before they produce spores is your best bet.

Agreed. Food quality is better if you pick early. Potency issues are not really appropriate in my opinion when a few grams does the job anyway. If you're not high enough, simply eat a bit more. Dunking is a long time proved process to put moisture back into the substrate. Dunking before first flush is optional, but it's best to dunk between flushes for sure. There is no reason to use mineral water. I use plain tap water, but if your local water supply sucks, it's probably best to filter it or use spring water. RR
