ceramic space heater for fruiting in basement?

I was wondering instead of getting seperate aquarium heaters, if I could use my 1500 watt space heater to warm my FC containers. The problem is the whole basement is cold, so it uses a lot of electricity. So my question- Has anyone found a way to utilize a space heater in a cold environment? Would it be equal to using a few submersibles? It has a thermometer to shut itself off.

if you are working in a cold space such as a cold basement in the winter - a space heater will help you get to a temperature in the room that you can deal with. for example - lets say your basement is 55 degrees in the winter. if you can get the temp in the room up to 65 or more with a space heater then you will be able to control the temps in grow chambers and incubation chambers more easily. it is a lot more tricky to deal with a 20 degree difference then a 10 degree difference. try to use a smaller room in those areas and the space heater won't burn up as much eletricity. Should not be that expensive if using only one space heater. f

A space heater is what you want. If you try to use heaters in the FC's it will cause too much condensation due to the temperature difference between the tubs and the basement. Just do as suggested above and wall off a corner of the basement that you can insulate, then heat with a small space heater. RR

If you wanted to cut down on the energy consumption of the space heater, you can basically just build a big box out of ply-wood. Make it big enough for the space heater to be a couple of feet away from the fruiting chamber itself.
Less space to heat up=less money spent=more effecient.
For light in there you can just grab a flouro shop light at wal-mart or something and attach it to the underside of the lid.

Yep!
i have an entire room in my basement that is kept at 75-77

on hi it's 1200W but on low it's 900W (once you get to the desired temp, you can place it on low and it will keep it that way)
