How much lime in the casing?
    #575343 - 03/10/02 09:48 PM (22 years, 1 month ago)

How much hydrated lime or gypsum should be added to the casing (half verm, half coir) per gallon? Also can crushed oyster shell be used and in what amount?
Peace

No crushed oyster is not a substitute for lime.... but chalk is.
Use approx. 1 heaping teaspoon per 2 quarts of peat/5050. I actually prefer a 70/30 mix, 70-peat, 30-verm, lime-yes, oyster shell-no. Hear coir is good stuff too, tried it once.. everything went green.

Now after reading your post again, I see you are not using peat in your mix... I dont think you even need lime for coir. Could be wrong, havent worked with it much. Anyone else agree?

Well, at least the coir I use is slighhtly acidic.

I?s say add 1 spoon of hydrated lime per quart of the mixture or 2 teaspoons chalk.
