so i'm studying abroad in brisbane australia for the next 5 months. leaving the states on friday. i'm kind of wondering what to expect. i know i'm gonna be going out in the rainforest and in the outback and stuff, which is gonna be awesome, but i was wondering about the music scene over there. is there a good jam band or psychedelic music scene? does anybody over there listen to the dead?
i've been looking around on myspace, and it seems that everyone is into bands like blink 182 and shitty american pop punk bands like that. i really don't like bands like that, and i want to see some good live music while i'm there. i know they're big into electronic music over there, and a lot of good DJs from all over the whole world spin in australia. that's gonna be cool, but after awhile i'll get a little sick of that music.
also, can anyone tell me about nimbin? i hear it's a great place, but all i know about it is what i've read online and what a friend of mine who went there once told me, but he's not really into the whole hippy scene at all, so he didn't really understand it. he was just happy about the cheap, but awesome weed. i don't plan on doing too many drugs while i'm there, a couple trips out in the middle of nowhere, under the stars, would be cool. i'll smoke a couple of times a week at most, but i really don't want to risk getting in trouble over there, and i want to be going out and doing stuff all the time, as opposed to sitting around high, so i'm gonna keep smoking to a minimum.
anybody have any other advice of things i should definitely do while i'm down there? i look forward to doing a lot of camping and hiking and stuff, any specific places i should check out?
i'll still be comin to the shroomery while i'm over there, just probably not as often as i do now. i'll have a laptop with me, and i'm sure i'll be comin by late night.

Sounds cool. I'd love to go there someday, but I heard you can't go there if you've had a felony. So...that leaves me out.

That's pretty ironic, considering that it started out as a penal colony for England!

i've never heard that before, but i havent looked into it because thankfully, i've never been caught. came inches away from going to jail a couple of times, but i think someone up there is on my side.

It was something I heard from a guy who wanted to go...said he planned it and then was told that he couldn't enter Australia because of his felony. I haven't looked it up either. I also don't plan on going there anytime soon. I want to finish touring my own country first.
Sorry poster...I'm not trying to jack your thread.

true, those kinds of bands were really popular in high school, but you don't see too many people listening to them after high school. sure there's a few, but not too many that i've met.
