i started this at about the second hour. the first hour and a half was playing drums and the other half our was reading Ken Wilber's book, "A Theory of everything"- i did not have a huge interest at the time in reading anything in particular, i was just looking for a good activity that would reground my focus to a more trusting perception- then i made this.... It's all about "the moment!"
In relation to a "Theory Of Everything" (TOE) and art, I am not familiar with the particular book you were reading, but if it was about the quest for a unified field theory, string theory, et cetera, here's something I'll share. It is a snippet from a revised artist statement I had been working on today.
Quote:
I have also become fascinated, of late, with some of the fundamental theories about the ontology, or nature, of the universe itself. Things to do with elemental nature such as quantum physics, fractal geometry, chaos theory, and cellular automata, fascinate me, and have become very important in my recent work, as I strive to recreate nature, rather than illustrate nature.
I read about these things; they gel in my mind; and eventually, they effect the outcome of my work. I am not trying to illustrate these concepts, but simply trying to "grok" them, and have them subjectively influence the dance of creation. In a way, every time I step up to the canvas, I bring my entire life's experience with me. Hopefully, this means that the work gets better as I go along and accumulate more of life's experience.

that's one of the most original works I have seen here in a long time .. a truly incredible use of subtle desaturated coloring and a full understanding of how to express being 'in the moment' ... the SUPREME moment ... the one that's always here, yet passes by in a flash ...
... hey, there it goes again!

These are well considered thoughts here. They remind me of Tim Leary's talks on how to ++Tune In++ and how it's already built into us, just as well as the ability to --Tune Out-- (TV is a big teacher of how to tune out, as artistic thought is the opposite) Itake for example what it's like to mimic something, we know that becomming like that thing is untimately part of the criteria. "Pray" will more likely approach the "Hunter" if it looks like it's supposed to be there. Now, just for fun, Consider what a cell feels like during mitosis, no matter how bizarre the experience is we will always in the end up as 2 from 1, or a sperm traveling throgh those tubes, think of what happens to us during all those strange transitions of growth and birth- if we tune in, we be are coming. Consciousness has all these same kinds of transitions and paradigms. When I'm learning how to study the mind, It makes me think that we are all alloted an infinite number of identities, or cells of being to be in, in order to see better the state of that place. This is what Ken Wilber is interested in and speaks about in his book, "A Theory of Everything" He is a sort of a guru about consciousness evolution-he refers to it as Developmental Physiology, which is the study of growth and development of the mind. Naturally, the shroomrey is filled with people interested in this area of study yet they don't realize it. Shroomers are natural explorers of the mind, ergo the term psyconauts. While Alex Grey is what you may call the Developmental Physiologist's interior decorator.
when we express nature, just as TM said, we must +-Become+- nature, in order to flow diversely enough and with enough intelligence. When i painted this piece on LSD, i was trying to just focus my attention on attention. When i started painting i was trying to consider that each place of the paper was a different section of nature, universe----each place had it's own problems, parallels, and paradoxes but ultimately i felt like a messenger that carried signals from one place to another, so new decisions could be made. I wanted the art to make up it's own mind.....it was about my state of mind at the time, sure, but as you may notice the casual self portrait is not implied.
