Is everything ok with this procedure (casing) ?

Does this procedure look ok?
I am using BRF/Vermiculite PF style 1/2 pint cakes to make casings...
1. Take fully colonized PF cakes, and dunk overnight in the fridge. 2. Take the cakes, 2 per a ziplock bag (the large kind) and break them up into little balls about the size of nickels. 3. Take some 50/50 mix (peatmoss/verm.) that was sterilized in the microwave, and put a 1/2 inch layer of casing on each tray (3 trays, two cakes per a tray). 4. Take each bag (that contains 2x crumbled cakes each) and empty it evenly on top the 50/50 mix. 5. Cover the trays with plastic wrap, and let the mycelium recoup for 24 hours. 6. Take that 50/50 mix (re-sterilized) and put 1 inch of it on each tray. 7. Spray the casing 3 or 4 times, maybe more, until it "glistens 'nearly saturated' from Hyphae's thread." 8. Put the trays in my incubated room for 3 days- until I see even amounts of mycelium growth pop up throughout the casings. 9. Put in aquarium, and spray twice a day, and air out 3 times a day until I see pins, and then I wont spray at all, unless I see the substrate beginning to dry up a little, and in this case I will do my best to avoid spraying the pins.
Is everything ok with this procedure? I really want to get some nice yields for my first casing, I did a lot of research, but just making sure before I take action
Thanks

I would completely eliminate step 4. You do not need to have a casing layer on the bottom of the fruiting substrate. With regards to step 6, 1 inch is way too much for a casing layer. Even if you had a 4 inch substrate, 1/2-3/4 inch would be more than sufficient.
Misting, aside from initial saturation, should only be done when you need to. Never mist just to mist. If you see the casing layer drying out, mist accordingly.
Everything else looks fine.

Ok thanks, so don't break the cakes up? Should I slice them up into bits as the 50/50 tek describes? And don't apply a casing layer to the bottom of the trays? So is that a flaw in the 50/50 tek?
Just making sure Im understanding you, thanks for the info.

Breaking the cakes up would be the way I would go. I personally don't care for putting a casing layer on the bottom, as I have found bottom-pinning to be a problem. Some do well with this, but it's just a step that is not required.
There is no flaw in the 50/50 tek, just letting you know that you don't have to follow all the steps you have outlined. Your results will be just as good without the bottom casing layer.

What I did with my 1st casing is put a layer of dry verm on the bottom of the container and sprayed it until it was moist before putting my crumbles cakes down. (Then the casing layer) This is my first casing, but I figured that the layer of moist verm will help keep moisture in the mix. Ill let you all know how this guy goes. -Me
