So I just recieved the diatomaceous earth that I ordered for my casings.
The product that came is a different brand, but it's still DE.
The only catch is that it is "insect oust" diatomaceous earth..
Is that ok?

Is there an ingredient list? That will tell you. If you don't know post the ingredients on here and I'm sure some one will tell you if it'll harm you or your shrooms..

that's what DE is used for... it deters slugs and snails because DE is basically just super small sharp shards of glass (i know not technically glass), but when a slug or snail crawls onto it, not to mention fungus fly larvae, it gives them little cuts and hurts them... sometimes kills them, so they don't like it very much.
if it has chemicals in it... probably not safe for shroomies, but i'm pretty sure "insect oust" is just the DE itself

Ok good, I was using it for the porous consistency it adds to a casing mix.
And the only active ingrediant is Silicon Dioxide, so I believe I'll be ok as far as that goes.
Thanks again.

You can find DE in most farm / gardening stores as well in large quanity for cheap.
As stated earlier, it's just crushed fossiles of prehistoric intects, crustations, and all that stuff.

Be sure to let your compost or whatever you're using the DE in 'rest' after you add moisture. You'll find when you get to field moisture capacity, fifteen minutes later you squeeze and no water comes out. Just add more water and repeat the process. DE holds an enormous amount of water, which is great for substrates and casing material. Just adding DE to your mix will give you larger fruits, provided you take time to get the moisture content correct. RR

Yeah, I sit there and play with the substrate for a while, let settle and do it again a couple of times just to make sure.
Thanks RR.
