Equador 1/2 pints~
    #576346 - 03/11/02 10:55 PM (21 years, 11 months ago)

8 1/2 pints innoculated 2/28 w/ EQ. they look to be about 30% colonized. (straight PF-TEK)
what is the holdup? i was expecting them to be near done by now.

-heat has been maintained around 78-84 degrees F. (too much fluxuation?)
-jar water content seems low, there is however *slight* water accumulation on insides of the jar walls. (this is normal, right?)
-jar lids are tight, there are 4 holes in the lid covered by a tight-ish aluminum foil wraping.
-innoculated in only 2 spots, on oposite sides of the jar, not 4. (i'm thinking this is the main issue.)
-mycelium is growing steadily on those 2 sides.

feedback welcome!

I am guessing(im not a expert or anything) but its the foil over it.. mabey not enough air exchange.. i had same problem but after i took lids off and fanned it a few times they went right back to growing like hell... try takeing foil off.

Inoculatiog in only two spots is your main problem. Remove
the foil. When they get a little further along(40%), flip em.
You're not really that far behind schedule.:peace:

Make sure your lids are flipped upside down. The pointy sharp hole side is pointing down. The white side is up. This is in the PF-Tek, it only explains it once. But its the classic way to create more air flow. Besides this, its also that you only innocuted 2 sides. Try grinding up your own rice too, If you do it yourself it will come out more grainy so its not completely flour and powder. This will make the substrate more airy. But jars with really dense and dough like Brown rice flour also works fast, so I'm guessing more air exchange is needed. Keep the foil on but leave the lids screwed on loosely this will work better.

Thanks to all for the suggestions, did forget to flip the white side up. but the pointy edges are face down on the jars. start by loosening the lids, and then possibly flipping the jar about the y-axis ;p

won't have to do jars again for a while if all goes to plan, working on a corn mycelium tek. just keeping the mycelium growing..
