Mods and special post features

I've been seeing a few mods use special features in their posts like in post music and video or scrolling text. Why can they all of a sudden use these features, is this a test or a plan to give others these options also?

This has been explained before. Giving everyone the ability to embed HTML in their posts would make it easy to steal passwords and hijack accounts using simple cross-site scripting techniques.

why is cross site scripting called cross site scripting? It seems a really stupid name for "html injection"

Because you abuse the browser's trust model to run your own code with the privileges of the target site. HTML injection != cross site scripting although it often leads to it.

OK fine, but I don't think mods should have special higher posting features than the plebs.

I've been a certified looney for a number of years now.
I think it's wrong, a mod is there to check other posts. He/she shouldn't be there to be uberl33t and do more stuff/more rights than other members while posting. At least that's how I feel about it.

A mod is a mod because he/she is trusted to be a mod with all the implications. Therefore they are trusted to use HTML in their posts.

I haven't seen one case of where it was misused. I rarely ever use the html in posts. Only used it for fun in two different threads in the pub - only happened that one day too. Just because I was bored and just playing around, no harm came out of it.
The html in posts is useful when putting together, designing, editing, and organizing sticky threads - most of which contain lots text and took a lot of work. These threads are needed for newbies and people who want to find information or an answer to their questions. I think that they look much more neat, organized, and attractive with html features included. So you think that the ability should be taken away just because regular users can't do it? We need it for making guidelines and stuff like that for the forums we moderate.

Yeah apparently it's just an e-penis thing, there's no reason to change the current setup.

Okay, that is a good point, and I also thought using sound in a post was fun. But still the post kind of had a "look at my e-penis effect" on me. If it's handy for mod work then ofcourse it should stay. But pimping up your own posts to get more attention is a gray area for me.

If you allow non-restricted coding this would've been an infinite post. I almost exclusively use HTML to show fullsize pics.
