Non-Actives hogging up my cow field!!!

I was bored tonight so I decided to go check up on the ol' field and as usual its slackin'. No cubes once so ever have even began to start growing.. and we've been getting good rain, keeping high humidity, and having sunny days for the past week lately.. I duno whats up. Although I have been finding ton of these little non-active guys in my cow poo, and its pissin me off!

I have no idea what species it is and I was wondering whats the diffrence between the two mushrooms that is allowing one to grow and the other not? Weather seems perfect but im not sure.. The field maybe? If so does that mean if this type of strain is growing in the field will it not allow cubes to grow or could I likely find them both on the same shit patty?
Anyone else getting any luck in FL right now?

It is an Agaricus of some kind.

I duno why they're are growing in the shit, but im pretty sure they're growing in contrast to the cubes due to the fact that they beggin to grow early on in the season, and mainly in wet areas or just after rain.. I guess I need to let the fields dry out before I go looking again.. Makes me sad I just want to find me some damn cubes.. Thanks for the help though, I really appreciate it cause now I understand the qualities of the Agaricus family more so I wont have to waste any more time with em.

Hell you find the right Agaricus and you can have some choice edibles... Im not saying that the ones you found are choice ... But they are one good eating mushroom round here! Don't stress they don't compete with Cubensis.. You will find Agaricus out in the open and the Cubes will be hiding out in the spots with less harshness from the sun.. Like tall grass and under trees.. GL.. YeSSuP

Nice gillshot Tom. Not all fields will produce either, and there's always the possibility that somebody has already harvested. I live in a small town with lots and lots of cow and horse fields, I have yet to find the first cube here. If there are cubes present, I should find some today

No doubt.....I used to do back flip when I found that shroom you got there growin out of crap.......as do most the shrooms in the markets do ( growin out of crap ) which are also Agaricus....
Yours...... Agaricus subrufescens (or one of its closely related clones )....is an unsurpassed highly sought after choice edible as good if not better in taste than any Porcini, Morel, or Chanterrele in many peoples opinions......definately nothing less..
There are other Agaricus which appear in cow fields some of which can be toxic to many people but can be easily seperated by smell alone sometimes.....one thing Ive learned over the years with mushrooms is many people have lost there sense of smell ( taste) and dont really realize it so there can be a danger relying on smell for some people but if your in a cow pasture and find Agaricus (of coarse the hard part might be knowing for sure you found Agaricus ).....simply take a nick (a piece) out of the very bottom of the stem and rub it between your fingers and smell....yours should be sickningly sweet smelling.....this means choice Agaricus.....if the smell is sickningly offensive (sometimes hard to detect ) then you have a toxic Agaricus.....many wont have much of a smell or a mild smell that is different from the ones mentioned and you might want to leave these till you learn more and just stick with ones with distinct strong good/ bad smells when rubbed between your fingers.....just a couple tricks / short cuts for when your out in the pastures " not finding anything " that can turn your " ton of sad into a ton of glad
Remember....first you have to have an Agaricus .....thats most important......then... growing in dung AND sickningly sweet.....cant go wrong.
There are other types Agaricus that grow in pastures also which also have this same sweet smell and they are also good to eat and considered choice....I always prefer shrooms where the caps have not yet begun to opened up yet (buttons)....there are also 'choice' Agaricus which dont have this sweet smell also.
Most of us who started out years ago trompin through pastures have all eventually discovered the plus side of Agaricus mushrooms.....at one time ALL gilled mushrooms were placed in the group AGARICUS.....
Just be sure to check yours that it has the sweet smell as the toxic Agaricus can also bruise yellow and look identical and be growing right next to the good ones.

Nice words of advice Cole, I really appreciate it. Its those types of replys that bring alot of quality to the boards. Now I have another defense/technique to use when I go out to the field. My nose! To be truthful its one of those things I never would of thought about using, and now I think to myself why wouldn't I?.. Haha, Thanks again.
