Try Deep Forest's "La Boheme" album, Orb's "UFOrb", and Orbital's "Why?" and "The Middle Of Nowhere" albums. Any one of them will do the trick.

Do your self a huge favour and look up Svend Vath on google - all his music is SOOOOO fucking ahead of any other ambient music you could find.
I also like the early works of Brian Eno like 'the big ship' and 'becalmed' as well as the usual Amorphous Androgenous and all that stuff...
Aphex Twin's stuff tends to be fairly hard in my experience except for 'selected ambiant works' - Industrial Strength and Digeridoo are all more ravy stuff imo

some quick suggestions:
aphex twin - "selected ambient works II" = of the best ambient
* "selected ambient works I", too
orbital - in sides = amazing ambient techno album, you won't regret buying this for sure
from a synonym of ambient, brian eno (the man who coined the term): "neroli" = very minimal ambient, great for thinking - reading
plastikman - artifacts = of my favourite ambient techno (also minimal)
pan sonic = very minimal - experimental
be sure to check out --> the Artificial Intelligence II collection
now, autechre is my personal favourite, can't recommend them enough, you should try the albums "incunabula" and "amber", be carefull with the latest releases though cause they tend to get edgy experimental. for a test maybe try to download some of these : "eggshell", "nil", "montreal", "further", "bike", "444", "maetl", "basscadet"
boards of canada also good, haven't heard much though
of course anything from the orb : i would suggest dr lx paterson's latest release: "journey to paradise"
then you have to have "chill out" from the KLF
...fuck i would almost forget : Tangerine Dream !!
oh, and from the art of noise, "the ambient collection" !

"white pony" -deftones
"atom heart mother" - pink floyd
"fine day to exit" - anathema
"good god's urge" - porno for pyros.
BTW these are all albums and every single WHOLE album rocks tripping, stoned or sober
GEOkills i read your post of old.......... you seemed to have a majority of tracsk from the BEACH movie.........
"good gods urge" by pOp is the album i had on repeat as i read the book the BEACH and suits it very well......... the white sands the warm sun the free spiritedness all the rythms suit it.......... PM if you are interested and ill send a copy sent to you.......or any other album...........
cheers

Pink Floyd's Atom heart mother isn't exactly ambient but whatever.
These have already been suggested but Aphex twin SAW 1 and 2 are great albums. They are very different that most of his albums. His newest album Druqks has some very cool ambient tracks, but its not entirely ambient.
Orbital is my all time favorite. Snivilisation and Insides are absolutely incredible. Nothing can entrance me quite the same way that these albums can.
Boards of Canada's "Music has the Right to children" is great. It takes a few tracks to get going though IMO.
Telefone Televiv's "Farenhieght(sp?) Fair Enough" is some of the most relaxing music I've run across in a while. Its not exactly ambient though but its close enough.
I'm sure they're is plenty of stuff I'm forgeting. I'll post more suggestion if AI can think of any.

Do yourself a favour and check out Nodens Ictus (members of eat static/Ozric tentacles) download Pluringrium form audiogalaxy and tell me if it doesn't sum up the majesty of that mushroom high! After that go buy spacelines, the only album to have been released (Pluringrium was a single track on a complilation called feed your head) although a few tracks are floating around (from taped releases) they are difficult to find.
Audiogalaxy also has
Bouncing in the important countryside
Somewhere indian (ohh deepanmoody)
Long music
To occur in a forest...
Trust me this is ambient mushroom music, some ambient stuff can become boring on a trip if it's too sparse. I can't say i've ever had to take nodens ictus off because it was boring, damn one time (at band camp) I played that one cd throughout the entire trip!
These guys really know how to work the boards
Oh and if you haven't already checkout Eatstatic : So much more than trance, Ozric Tentacles can't define the sound really, System 7 more tranceyish good stuff.

Oh and Spacetime continuum the early years.
Albums:
Sea biscuit
Alien dreamtime with terence mckenna (not entirely ambient but good nontheless)
Flurescence ep (the best of the bunch his first release in fact. Good luck finding this one I still haven't)

You would really like Future Sound of London. Ditto DJ Food, Amon Tobin, Afronaught, definitely Boards of Canada (they rock), Shpongle, Spacer, The Orb, William Orbit - Pieces in a Modern Style (album), and maybe Lamb and maybe look for the Mushroom Jazz collection by Mark Farina. Great music. I can send you stuff by any of these guys if you want. PM me and I'll give you my ICQ.

No offense, but that "Svend Vath" guy isn't ambient at all. It's like. . . whatever it is . . . club music.
That's not my idea of ambient at all.

Sven vath has had some ambient works. I can't name any as I'm not really into his stuff (the more dancy stuff anyway). Check www.betalounge.com and search for him in the past shows section, you should find a five hour set starting with ken ishi then sven and lastly jah wobble. Exellent!
Enjoy.

squarepusher "hard normal daddy" is fucking genius. 1st song is bizzare funk basslines, 'shaft style' guitar drum'n'bass and crazy ambient bits, don't know how to describe it but next time i decide to trip i'm listening to it

Don't forget Robert Rich, he creates an ambient soundscape like nobody else (someone else might but for the purposes of of this post we'll just ignore that).
Rather than being straight 'music', its more a soundtrack to a landscape (some of it is for movies). Check out the album 'Stalker' with B. Lustmord, it is much more dark than general ambient stuff but certainly very powerful. Apparently it was written to be a soundtrack for a swampy type landscape but I always have felt like I was in a barren world where nothing stirred but my own thoughts. Stalker is the best stuff Robert Rich has done though so see if you can find that online or perish the thought actually buy the cd (it is worth it). I'd sample it first though to see if you like it.
Other notables:
The song 'analogue relaxation' by Antiloop (ambience personified).
Most stuff from the future sound of london, specifically the cascade album I think is rather good.
I personally prefer the deep forest self titled album to la boheme, mainly because I believe it is more ambient.
Early Delerium is very ambient.
Generally most of your common electronic 'stars' out there have produced a few ambient tracks. Leftfields 'Likwid' and that Antiloop song I mentioned earlier are good examples of this.

oops, i mean groove armada - likwid.
leftfield - a final hit is a good ambient(ish) track from them.
Some good aphex ambient tracks that are not on SAW 1/2 are:
flim, IZ US, Supremecyll, alberto balsalm, to cure a weakling child, most of analogue bubblebath (if not all).
Also the super nintendo donkey kong country games 1 and 2 have a really good ambient soundtrack to them. I often found myself pausing the game and lying back and listening. If you're lucky you might be able to download the mp3's from somewhere. The game is actually quite good btw.

some people have pretty strange ideas as to the definition of ambient music
uuh deftones? theyre good but ambient? whaddya listen to when ya wanna get all revved up?
anyways look for klaus schulze's mid 70's album - timewind
blackdance is good too, but timewind is 30 minutes of pure magic bliss, no beats pure analog synth spacewash.

there have been some good suggestions, ill give you a big list to choose from, all of this is very good!
Some of its tribal ambient, some minimal ambient, some psychedelic amibent, some dub ambient
but its all good to trip with mushrooms (well i havnt tried ALL of it, but most)
Asura - Code Eternity
Brian Eno - Music For Airports
Dub Trees - Nature Never did betray the heart that loved her
FSOL - Dead Cities
FSOL - ISDN
FSOL - Lifeforms (best fsol album!!)
Infinity Project - Mystical Experiences
Makyo - Yakshini
Ooze - Where the fields never end
Ozric Tentacles - Waterfall City
Pete Namlook and Klaus Schulze - Dark Side of the Moog I-VII (they are all really good, some better than others)
Pete Namlook and Tetsue Inoue - Shades of Orion 1&2
Pete Namlook and Richie Hawtin - From Within 1 2 & 3
Pete Namlook and Bill Laswell - Outland 1 & 4
Shpongle - Are you shpongled?
Saafi Brothers - midnights children
Saafi Brothers - mystic cigarettes
Shulman - Soundscapes And Modern Tales
Various - Mystery of the Yeti Part 1 & Part 2
Various - Eclipse: A journey of permanence and
impermanence
Various - Mana Medicine
hmmm big list
SAW2 by aphex twin is prolly his most ambient stuff, i think you said you already have that
Boards of Canada is nice
Best orb album IMO is U.F.Orb

As ive seen posted on the other post, i support Tool for trippin like nothing (i like it anyway ) another good one is sasha-expander, if you like kinda a techno low sound. Apex twin is crazy, on alot of their songs, some of them are just to fast and hard distortion for me to like tripping. i really enjoy ambient music when im driving in the country during the day, it really makes me feel good. you should also listen on the soul fly cds, they always have a song that is just music, nice calm, and very melodic. i normally go to dancerecords.com and buy vinyls for dj'in and get some ideas for music to chill too. oh and deftones rock it too, and incubus. there are so many good musicians, its hard to get em all! im totally going to look into svend vath though! peace rain

Ok, I found my crazy ass noise music, i'ts the japanese shit called 'aube' no music just weird ass sounds to trip to. Download 4 songs and play them all in a row, i think it's the sound my brain makes in diffrent circumstances. I think It's real good for tripping others may find it boring or just shity. One cool thing is to use sonique or something that can speed (or slow) the song down while changing the pitch fun as fuck when tripping, my new pastime.
